The Giants have an extended schedule this week at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center because of the Monday night road game in Los Angeles.
With an extra day, the Giants held a walk-through, known as an ACT practice, on Wednesday. Thursday will be the normal "Wednesday" practice, Thursday will be "Friday" and so on.
The Giants will practice Saturday and then fly to the West Coast a day earlier than a typical road trip. John Harbaugh did the same thing with the Ravens. He also did it going back to his days with the Eagles.
"You get a chance to kind of get your clock set just a little bit," the head coach said. "We go ahead and get our clock set. We go out late, so the guys are up a little later on the travel night two days before. So, we try to get them ready to be at their peak at night. That's kind of the idea. Same thing we did at home, but now it's on the road, so that's really the process."
Harbaugh provided other updates in the buildup to another primetime game to start the season. Here is what you need to know:
📰 The trainers said wide receiver Malik Nabers looked good coming out of his first game back. It seemed like an "A" outcome.
📰 Running back Tyrone Tracy has a "bad flu." They expect him to be back tomorrow if he clears up. He came in yesterday morning "not in great shape" and they sent him home. The worry is getting everyone else sick.
📰 The Giants need to be "more intentional" with ball security, one of the few blemishes on Sunday night. Four different Giants fumbled against the Cowboys, one of which was lost by running back Tyrone Tracy Jr.
Harbaugh said there are "two tracks" when addressing it. On one side of the coin, the reality is those plays make differences in games and they need to be stressed as such. On the other, players are trying to do the right thing. Tracy "had the ball in a good spot" and you have to acknowledge the punchout by Quinnen Williams, who "came out of nowhere like Superman flying through the air and got his big, strong fist right on the football."
📰 Harbaugh expects Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald to play "like Aaron Donald" if he suits up on Monday. They are planning as if he will play. He's a "game-wrecking" player inside. Rams coach Sean McVay said Monday that they are "going to continue to work his process, and we'll see what that looks like." Donald unretired last month but did not travel to Australia for the team's season opener. The Rams are already preparing to play without another future Hall of Famer on defense, Myles Garrett, who will undergo knee surgery and be placed on injured reserve. The two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year will miss at least the Rams' next four games.
📰 Running back Najee Harris is "looking good." They will continue his process and see where that leads them this week. Harris, who has not played since suffering an Achilles injury in Week 3 last season with the Chargers, was inactive on Sunday night.
📰 Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, the reigning NFL MVP, affects the game in "every way." People say he's not a scrambler, but he does scramble sometimes. He's "still young" for a quarterback in today's NFL. He sees the whole field, gets them in and out of plays, and acts like an offensive coordinator on the field.
📰 The Rams are a very "well-coached" team. Their schemes are incredible, but they play fundamental, disciplined football. "That's really their calling card." Stafford epitomizes that.
📰 The Rams' offense is built to be positionless. "All their guys do all the jobs."
📰 Running back Devin Singletary, who extended the Giants' lead to 14 points late against the Cowboys, has the "faith" of his coaches. "You can trust him. You can believe he's going to be doing the right thing, the best he can to the best of his ability, and he's got a lot of ability." He's "super-talented."
