Presser Points: Takeaways from Coach John Harbaugh

JOHN-HARBAUGH-PRIMEPOINT

After staying undefeated at home in dramatic fashion, the 3-1 Giants will look to pick up their first road win of the season when they travel to face the 1-3 Washington Commanders on Sunday.

John Harbaugh met with the media after Wednesday's practice to preview the Week 5 matchup. Here is everything you need to know from the head coach:

📰 In the pre-draft process, the Giants saw what Harbaugh calls "no-hesitation tackling" from linebacker Arvell Reese. He gets there quick and doesn't give the ball carrier a chance to make him miss. "But you've got to be good to do that because if you're going that way and the ball carrier is going the other way, you can miss when you do that too." Reese has the "unique talent" to get there quickly and still hit his target.

📰 Some people thought Reese projected to be an edge rusher, but the Giants were convinced to keep him where he is because "that's what he played" in a "pretty complicated defensive system" at Ohio State.

📰 After the first two drives on Sunday, the Giants' run defense clamped down against the Cardinals because "our guys made a decision to defend it better." It was "very out of character" and they also made adjustments after Arizona's hot start. The Giants were playing more to stop inside runs but then adjusted to get more secure on the edge. That was a good change by defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson and his staff, Harbaugh said.

📰 Offensively, the explosive run game is "just not good enough yet." Defenses are playing them "pretty well" in that department while the Giants have been committed to playing physically. Play-action could help loosen them up a little bit.

📰 The Giants are preparing to face quarterback Jayden Daniels, who has not played since Week 2 due to a left elbow injury. If for some reason he doesn't play, it's still the same offense but just "less" of it.

📰 Outside linebacker Abdul Carter has been "disruptive" every game this season against the run and pass, but last week was probably his best game "no question about it."

📰 Five Giants did not practice on Wednesday: defensive lineman Chauncey Golston (neck), running back Najee Harris (not injury related/personal), wide receiver Malik Nabers (knee), safety Jason Pinnock (concussion) and left tackle Andrew Thomas (groin).

Running back Cam Skattebo (shoulder) and tight ends Isiah Likely (knee/groin) and Chris Manhertz (shoulder) were limited.

Cornerback Deonte Banks (calf), the reigning NFC Defensive Player of the Week, and center Bryan Hudson (ankle) were full participants.

📰 Golston's injury "could be" a long-term situation.
