Turning the page from Sunday's tie, John Harbaugh met with the media after practice on Wednesday at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center.
The head coach previewed the Week 6 matchup between his 3-1-1 Giants and the 1-4 Saints at MetLife Stadium.
Here is everything you need to know:
📰 The Giants are anticipating a "very hungry" Saints team coming to MetLife Stadium. New Orleans has lost three consecutive games after defeating Baltimore in Week 2 for its only win of the season.
📰 Nobody could "really get their arms around" what type of player tight end Isaiah Likely was going to be in the NFL. "He just looked different" on his college tape. John Harbaugh's Ravens eventually selected him late in the fourth round of the 2022 draft. "It turns out it's really good, what he does." He is elusive and can get away in zone and man coverage while having a big catch radius.
📰 Likely was also a "crazy good perimeter blocker, like he would launch guys through the air" at Coastal Carolina. His skills translated to the NFL "really well" and he's been able to "express" what type of player he is as a starting tight end this year.
📰 It's "really tough" for a quarterback to jump into an offense that was largely built for someone else. It was "awkward" for Jameis Winston, but he "fought through it and kept his confidence, kept his poise and he found a way to win football games."
Now the coaches have been able to "adapt" the game plan with him and get reps that are "more Jameis."
Winston is more versatile than some people may think, including his scrambling ability. They were having fun in the team meeting this week. "He's like, 'I've always been a scrambler.'"
📰 There are two tracks to addressing kicker Dominic Zvada's first misses of his NFL career. The first is the technique, and the other is the why. Harbaugh said it was an issue with his plant foot. Zvada already knew the problem before the game was over. It's just a matter of doing it.
📰 Stats are important, but people are "underestimating" what Kayvon Thibodeaux is bringing to the table and the plays he is making. "The tape is what tells the story" and you'll see a lot of good on it. Harbaugh pointed to the final play last week when Thibodeaux took the throw away from Jayden Daniels and the quarterback "decided to tuck it."
📰 The Giants' two starting offensive tackles, Jermaine Eluemunor (calf) and Andrew Thomas (groin), did not practice on Wednesday. Marcus Mbow, a second-year pro, and rookie J.C. Davis are the next men up. Harbaugh has seen "a lot of diligent work" from both young players, who are looking to prove themselves in the league if called upon.
📰 "You can definitely coach" fumble problems. Ball security is a "major point of emphasis" because the league is "more of a punch-out league than it's ever been before." More players are "really good" at it than ever before, too.
📰 Tight end Theo Johnson has been "adamant" about contributing on special teams. He's running people over on kickoffs, which has been "awesome" to see. "I wouldn't want to stand in front of him."
📰 Everyone is always aware of the standings, but "you know you've got to stack wins to make the December standings matter."
📰 The benefit of having a J.J. McCarthy package is a "change of pace." What people have seen is probably not all the Giants have for him. It would be "negligent" not to use all the players you have on the roster. The Giants are always searching for ways to use everyone.
