In recognition of Coach Angarano's success and commitment, he will receive a certificate of recognition signed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Giants Head Coach Tom Coughlin and a $1,000 check will be granted to the Bobcats football program. Coach Angarano will be acknowledged by a stadium announcement when the Giants host the Dallas Cowboys on November 24th and an announcement will also be posted on the Giants website, www.giants.com.
The Lou Rettino High School Football Coach of the Week Award is part of the Giants' continuing effort to promote youth football. The Giants elected to name the award in memory of former Union High School (NJ) coach, Lou Rettino, for his fine commitment to the game of football, his community and the betterment of his athletes' lives.
Each week during the 2013 high school football season, the Giants will select one area high school head coach as the Coach of the Week winner. The selection is based on the coach's continuing commitment towards promoting youth football, developing motivated student-athletes and his overall community involvement. At the conclusion of the 2013 season, the Giants will choose a Coach of the Year. That coach will receive $2,000 for their school's football program. They will also be invited to attend a dinner hosted by the Giants.
Coach Angarano began his coaching career in 1987 as an assistant coach for Brookfield High School. He was a member of the staff that helped turn Brookfield into a winning program for 12 years prior to taking over as Head Coach in 1999. As an assistant, the Bobcats won 3 Conference Championships from 1993-1995, were undefeated in 1995 and were Class M State Champions. As Head Coach, the Bobcats hold a record of 103-60-2. They've had 6 state playoff appearances, 3 Conference Championships and will be going to their 7th State tournament and 4th Conference Championship this year. In the 6 years of playing in the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) State Tournament, the Bobcats have made it to the State Championship 4 years (2003-2005, 2008) winning in 2008. In the 3 Conference Championships games, they have won 2 (2005 and 2008).
As a coach that does not work at the high school, Coach Angarano implements a mandatory study hall that all players are to attend after school. Over the years, the team has averaged over 60% of their athletes on the Honor Roll, which is an accomplishment that he holds with pride. It is all about helping the athletes to learn time management.
Coach Angarano was born and raised in Harrison, NY and played football from 1963-1965. During this time, Harrison ran off 17 wins in a row, including an undefeated season in 1964. Coach Angarano moved to Brookfield, CT in 1987 with his wife Shawna, daughter Darci and son Marc.
