23 Questions in 23 Days: Deepest position group

23-QUESTIONS-RECEIVERS

Giants.com is counting down to the start of the team's 2023 training camp with 23 questions in 23 days.

Each day, a member of the crew will answer one question about the roster, coaching staff, schedule, and much more.

12) What is the deepest position on the roster heading into training camp?

There are several attractive options on the defensive line, but I don't think any other position group from top to bottom comes close to what wide receiver has to offer. As of now, the receiving corps showcases at least 10 players who realistically have a shot to secure a roster spot. Yes, there are some individuals coming off injuries (Sterling Shepard, Wan'Dale Robinson and Collin Johnson) and others who have yet to play an NFL snap (Jalin Hyatt), but the group overall has many different options with various backgrounds and skillsets. The team also added veterans Parris Campbell and Jamison Crowder this offseason while Isaiah Hodgins has yet to record a full season with the Giants after being claimed off waivers last November. Based on what he produced in the final two months of 2022, that's an encouraging sign of what he could potentially accomplish moving forward.

I'm the first one to say volume is great but substance is even better. Although every receiver isn't a proven commodity and some have small sample sizes, the most appealing aspect of this position group is that the players present speed (Campbell, Hyatt, Darius Slayton), size (Hodgins, Johnson) and athleticism (Crowder, Robinson, Shepard). The Giants will hold some interesting discussions to cut down the receivers and that's a good problem to have.
