Snap Counts: Week 1 usage & takeaways

The Giants traveled to Washington in Week 1 for the first of back-to-back matchups against NFC East opponents. Big Blue will now head to Dallas to take on the Cowboys this Sunday.

Here are snap counts from the season opener:

Quarterback

  • Russell Wilson - 68 offensive snaps (100 percent)

Wilson, making his 200th regular-season start, finished the game 17 of 37 for 168 yards while adding 8 carries for 44 yards. Rookie Jaxson Dart was the backup. Jameis Winston served as the emergency third quarterback.

Running Backs

  • Tyrone Tracy Jr. - 50 offensive snaps (73.5 percent)
  • Devin Singletary - 10 offensive snaps (14.7 percent)
  • Cam Skattebo - 8 offensive snaps (11.8 percent)

Tracy led the backfield in snaps as he totaled 35 yards on 12 touches (10 carries, 2 receptions). Singletary took 3 carries for 9 yards, while Skattebo turned 4 touches into 9 yards (2 carries, 2 receptions).

Wide Receivers

  • Darius Slayton - 66 offensive snaps (97.1 percent)
  • Malik Nabers - 64 offensive snaps (94.1 percent)
  • Wan'Dale Robinson - 52 offensive snaps, 4 special teams snaps (76.5 percent, 17.4 percent)
  • Beaux Collins - 2 offensive snaps, 9 special teams snaps (2.9 percent, 39.1 percent)
  • Gunner Olszewski - 9 special teams snaps (39.1 percent)

Slayton led the receivers with 66 offensive snaps but saw just 1 target. Nabers' 12 targets led the team, which he turned into 5 receptions for 71 yards. Robinson was right behind Nabers with 8 targets, leading to 6 receptions for 55 yards. Olszewski only saw action on special teams, where he served as the primary punt returner and returned 3 punts for 24 yards (8.0 avg.).

Tight Ends

  • Theo Johnson - 53 offensive snaps (77.9 percent)
  • Chris Manhertz - 18 offensive snaps, 12 special teams snaps (26.5 percent, 52.2 percent)
  • Daniel Bellinger - 15 offensive snaps, 15 special teams snaps (22.1 percent, 65.2 percent)

Johnson played majority of the team's offensive snaps and finished with 1 reception for 5 yards on 3 targets. Manhertz was mostly used as a blocking tight end, while Bellinger saw 1 target on offense, which he turned into a 14-yard reception.

Offensive Linemen

  • Jermaine Eluemunor - 68 offensive snaps, 2 special teams snaps (100 percent, 8.7 percent)
  • James Hudson III - 68 offensive snaps, 2 special teams snaps (100 percent, 8.7 percent)
  • Jon Runyan Jr. - 68 offensive snaps, 2 special teams snaps (100 percent, 8.7 percent)
  • John Michael Schmitz Jr. - 68 offensive snaps (100 percent)
  • Greg Van Roten - 68 offensive snaps (100 percent)
  • Marcus Mbow - 2 offensive snaps (2.9 percent)
  • Austin Schlottmann - 2 special teams snaps (8.7 percent)
  • Aaron Stinnie - 2 special teams snaps (8.7 percent)

With Andrew Thomas sidelined for the season opener, Hudson started at left tackle. The five starters played all 68 of the team's offensive snaps, while Mbow was on the field for two offensive snaps. The unit finished the game with two sacks allowed.

Defensive Linemen

  • Dexter Lawrence - 49 defensive snaps, 2 special teams snaps (70.0 percent, 8.7 percent)
  • Roy Robertson-Harris - 47 defensive snaps, 3 special teams snaps (67.1 percent, 13.0 percent)
  • Rakeem Nunez-Roches Sr. - 32 defensive snaps, 4 special teams snaps (45.7 percent, 17.4 percent)
  • D.J. Davidson - 15 defensive snaps, 4 special teams snaps (21.4 percent, 17.4 percent)
  • Chauncey Golston - 11 defensive snaps, 21 special teams snaps (15.7 percent, 91.3 percent)
  • Elijah Garcia - 6 defensive snaps (8.6 percent)

Lawrence was on the field for 70 percent of the team's defensive snaps in Week 1. Robertson-Harris saw the most snaps next to Lawrence, with Nunez-Roches not too far behind. While Golston played just 11 snaps on defense, his 21 special teams snaps tied for the most on the team.

Linebackers

  • Bobby Okereke - 68 defensive snaps, 3 special teams snaps (97.1 percent, 13.0 percent)
  • Kayvon Thibodaux - 52 defensive snaps, 3 special teams snaps (74.3 percent, 13.0 percent)
  • Brian Burns - 47 defensive snaps, 1 special teams snap (67.1 percent, 4.3 percent)
  • Darius Muasau - 38 defensive snaps, 15 special teams snaps (54.3 percent, 65.2 percent)
  • Abdul Carter - 38 defensive snaps, 5 special teams snaps (54.3 percent, 21.7 percent)
  • Micah McFadden - 11 defensive snaps, 1 special teams snap (15.7 percent, 4.3 percent)
  • Chris Board - 21 special teams snaps (91.3 percent)
  • Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles - 17 special teams snaps (73.9 percent)

Okereke led the front seven with 97.1 percent of the defensive snaps played, which led to a team-high 16 total tackles (7 solo). McFadden left the game early due to a leg/foot injury, which paved the way for Muasau to play over half of the defensive snaps. As for the edge rushers, Thibodaux, Burns and Carter were rotated and combined for all of the team's sacks in Week 1. Carter also made the most of his special teams snaps by getting his hands on a Commanders punt and nearly blocking another.

Defensive Backs

  • Tyler Nubin - 70 defensive snaps, 6 special teams snaps (100 percent, 26.1 percent)
  • Jevón Holland - 70 defensive snaps, 3 special teams snaps (100 percent, 13.0 percent)
  • Paulson Adebo - 70 defensive snaps (100 percent)
  • Cor'Dale Flott - 59 defensive snaps (84.3 percent)
  • Dru Phillips - 59 defensive snaps (84.3 percent)
  • Dane Belton - 17 defensive snaps, 21 special teams snaps (24.3 percent, 91.3 percent)
  • Deonte Banks - 11 defensive snaps, 8 special teams snaps (15.7 percent, 34.8 percent)
  • Art Green - 21 special teams snaps (91.3 percent)
  • Nic Jones - 14 special teams snaps (60.9 percent)

Nubin and Holland both played every defensive snap as they combined for 14 total tackles. Adebo also played every defensive snap and was the primary defender on Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin, who was held to just 2 receptions for 27 yards. Flott was the primary outside corner opposite Adebo, while Banks played 15.7 percent of the defensive snaps. Lining up in the slot, Phillips played 84.3 percent of the defensive snaps. Holland, Adebo and Flott accounted for the team's 3 pass breakups.

Specialists

  • P Jamie Gillan - 9 special teams snaps (39.1 percent)
  • LS Casey Kreiter - 8 special teams snaps (34.8 percent)
  • K Graham Gano - 4 special teams snaps (17.4 percent)

Gillan handled the opening kickoff before Gano took over for the remainder of the game.
