Practice Report (8/8): Top plays from Saturday

ISAIAH-LIKELY-CITIZENS

That's a wrap from West Virginia.

The Giants took the field Saturday for their 10th and final practice at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs.

Following the off day on Sunday, training camp will resume Monday at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center. The Giants will begin preparations for next weekend's preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings, which kicks off at 1pm on Saturday.

"I think we got a lot better," coach John Harbaugh said about work that was done in West Virginia. "That's probably what we got out of it. We improved tremendously. We're much further along than we were when we started. I think we can look back and say that we've come a long way. I mean, the competition is really tough in this league, and every team is doing the same thing.

"So, you're in a race every single day to be at least the best you can be. And everybody's trying to do the same thing in the NFL, so that's why it's so tough, but I thought our guys did a good job. I'm happy with where we're at. It's just a matter of keeping your head down and staying after it every day. Never taking a breath in terms of your mindset and determination to get better."

Here is everything you need to know from Saturday's practice.

* 1-on-1 drills began around the red zone, which led to some scoring opportunities for the offense. Jameis Winston hit Jalin Hyatt on a fade to the corner of the end zone, with the quarterback dropping the ball perfectly over the defender and into Hyatt's hands.

* Malachi Fields ran a strong route to get open before catching a pass from Jaxson Dart for a touchdown. Later in the period, Dart dropped a pass to Darius Slayton right in front of the back pylon for a touchdown. Slayton made a strong contested grab earlier in the period, as well.

* Fields came down with a second touchdown during 1-on-1s, with Odell Beckham Jr. and Dalen Cambre also catching touchdown passes.

* Deonte Banks made a highlight reel play to come down with an impressive interception in the back of the end zone. Later during 7-on-7s, Banks had sticky coverage on a slant run by Isaiah Likely, with the corner breaking up the pass right in front of the pylon.

* Paulson Adebo and Colton Hood also came up with pass breakups during this period.

* The team then practiced 7-on-7s inside the red zone, with both sides of the ball coming up with some big plays. Jaxson Dart got the period started with a strong throw to Isaiah Likely in the back of the end zone for a touchdown. Jameis Winston connected with Thomas Fidone II on a slant across the middle for a touchdown as the veteran quarterback threw the ball before the second-year tight end cut his route. Brandon Allen got into the action as well with touchdown throws to Isaiah Hodgins and Ryan Miller.

* On the defensive side of the ball, Zaire Barnes got his hands on the ball to break up a pass on the goal line.

* Arvell Reese sniffed out a tight end screen and came up with the stop at the line of scrimmage. Later in the period, Anfernee Orji stopped the ball carrier behind the line of scrimmage for a TFL. Caleb Murphy had a sack, and then came up with a pressure and pass breakup on the same play in the next team period.

* The defensive line continued to bat balls at the line of scrimmage, with veteran Shelby Harris coming down with one on Saturday. A few plays later, Darius Alexander got into the backfield for a sack.

* The Giants concluded their training camp in West Virginia with a goal line situation. The young players on both sides of the ball came on the field for four plays from the 2-yard line, with the defense tackling to the ground.

* The defense won the first two plays with a run stop and then a sack from Khalid Kareem. The offense then got its revenge as Damon Bankston was able to punch it into the end zone on back-to-back plays.

* The ball was then lined up at the 1-yard line for one final play, which saw Bankston once again muscle his way into the end zone for a touchdown.
