The New York Giants have officially signed cornerback Greg Newsome II.

Here are five things to know about the team's new cornerback.

1. Newsome was drafted 26th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. He played in 59 games (47 starts) with the Browns from 2021-2025 before getting traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the middle of last season. He finished the 2025 campaign with the Jaguars, playing in 12 games with 11 starts.

In 71 career games, Newsome has recorded 207 total tackles (163 solo), six tackles for loss, one sack, two quarterback hits, four interceptions, one defensive touchdown, and 43 passes defensed.

2. The 6-foot, 192-pound corner got his NFL career off to a strong start. In 12 games (11 starts) as a rookie, Newsome had nine pass breakups to go with 37 tackles, leading to him earning a spot on the Pro Football Writers of America All-Rookie Team.

3. Newsome's best overall campaign was in 2023 when he played 14 games with 13 starts for the Browns. The young corner set career-highs with 14 pass breakups, two interceptions, and four tackles for loss to go with his one defensive touchdown, which came on the return of his first career interception. His 14 passes defensed tied for the most on the team that season as he played a role in helping the Browns defense lead the NFL in total yards allowed and passing yards allowed.

4. Prior to being a first-round pick, Newsome played three seasons at Northwestern. After breaking up 11 passes as a sophomore in 2019, he had nine passes defensed and one interception in just six games the following season. This led to him being named first-team All-Big Ten by the media and the conference's coaches, along with second-team All-American by The Athletic.

5. A native of Chicago, Illinois, Newsome attended IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida after playing his sophomore and junior seasons at Glenbard North High School in Carol Stream, Illinois.

Newsome also lettered three times in basketball. He has three older sisters, one of whom, Zaikya, played college basketball at Division III North Park University.
