Deonte Banks, John Michael Schmitz make CBS Sports' Preseason All-Rookie Team

The pads have yet to come on at training camp, but that has not stopped the media from praising several members of the Giants' rookie class.

CBS Sports' Chris Trapasso recently released his picks for the 2023 Preseason All-Rookie Team, which saw the team's first two picks featured.

Let's start with center John Michael Schmitz, who was Trapasso's First-Team selection at interior offensive line.

"Schmitz was one of the few plug-and-play centers in the 2023 class -- you'll get that label after stellar play across nearly 2,500 collegiate snaps -- and the Giants waited patiently for him in the second round to be their starting pivot in 2023. He's ready."

The 6-foot-4, 310-pound lineman started at center for Minnesota the last three seasons. He was named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention following the 2020 campaign in which he started six of Minnesota's seven games.

Schmitz then started all 13 games in 2021 on his way to being selected Second-Team All-Big Ten by the conference's coaches. But the center was at his best this past season, as he started all 12 regular-season games and allowed just two sacks and eight total pressures on 302 pass block snaps before being named First-Team All-American and First-Team All-Big Ten.

The other Giants rookie named to the Preseason All-Rookie Team was Deonte Banks, who Trapasso selected as the Second-Team cornerback.

"Banks is another cornerback with adhesive-like coverage skills who'll play for a press-man enthusiast in Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale..." Trapasso wrote. "His explosion profile -- 4.35 40-yard dash, 42-inch vertical, 11-foot-4 inch broad -- will make him nearly impossible to beat over the top."

Banks landed on the NFL radar following a strong senior season last year at Maryland. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound cornerback registered an interception and eight passes defensed to go with his 38 total tackles (25 solo) and 0.5 sacks.

The 22-year-old's performance at the NFL Combine (4.35 40-yard dash, 42-inch vertical, 11-foot-4 inch broad as noted by Trapasso above) solidified his status as one of the top cornerbacks in the draft and a first-round pick.

Here are Trapasso's full Preseason All-Rookie Team selections at interior offensive line and outside cornerback:
