Updated draft order after trade up for WR Malachi Fields

UPDATED-DRAFT-ORDER

Joe Schoen hinted the Giants might not be done for the night when they selected Tennessee cornerback Colton Hood just five picks into the second round.

They weren't.

The Giants, who entered the draft without a third-round selection resulting from the 2025 trade to acquire quarterback Jaxson Dart, traded with the Browns to acquire the No. 74 pick and ultimately Notre Dame wide receiver Malachi Fields. In exchange, they sent No. 105 and No. 145, along with a fourth-round selection in 2027, to Cleveland.

Fields was one of six FBS players with at least five touchdown catches in each of the last three seasons. The 6-foot-4, 218-pounder capped his college career by averaging a personal-best 17.5 yards per reception in 2025.

"Malachi Fields is a player we coveted coming into the draft," general manager Joe Schoen said. "As things started to fall and he was still there and some of the receivers went already, an opportunity to go get him. We thought the value was -- we were fine with the value, and we were able to secure the player we wanted at a position we wanted to upgrade not only the size, length, athleticism, another phenomenal kid that will come in and be a really good addition for us."

The compensatory selection formula also factored into the decision.

"There's a chance we can maybe get a comp [pick] for Wan'Dale [Robinson]," Schoen said of the wide receiver who signed with the Titans as a free agent. "You may get one-for-one there. As we've seen throughout the draft, we've had opportunities to move back four, five, sixes. If you want to be intentional about it, you can certainly do that earlier in the draft, move back a couple spots. Just excited to get the player we were able to get. "

Now the Giants will wait.

The 2026 draft will conclude Saturday with Rounds 4-7, beginning at noon ET. The Giants won't be on the clock, as of now, until the No. 186 overall pick in Round 6.

Then there will be a flurry of action as their remaining three choices come in an eight-pick span, including back-to-back to end the day.

Giants' 2026 draft picks and remaining order:

  • Round 1 – No. 5: LB Arvelle Reese, Ohio State
  • Round 1 – No. 10 (from CIN): OL Francis Mauigoa, Miami
  • Round 2 – No. 37: CB Colton Hood, Tennessee
  • Round 3 – No. 74 (from CLE): WR Malachi Fields, Notre Dame
  • Round 6 – No. 186
  • Round 6 – No. 192 (from MIA)
  • Round 6 – No. 193 (from DAL)

The Giants' 2026 draft picks have arrived at their new home.
