Fact or Fiction: Role of the Rookies

Odell Beckham Jr. will be the primary punt returner in 2014

  • MICHAEL EISEN: Fiction -He'll be too busy and too valuable as a wide receiver to add punt returner to his list of duties. Tom Coughlin likes Rueben Randle's ball security and he could keep the job. Or perhaps Trindon Holliday will be a big-play threat as a punt returner.
  • JOHN SCHMEELK: Fiction -I still have my monopoly money on Trindon Holliday. I think he can make the team as the team's primary returner. Also, David Wilson has been fielding punts, and if he is cleared to play with his neck injury I could see him being used on both punts and kicks. I think Beckham will be too valuable as a wide receiver to risk using as a primary punt returner.

Weston Richburg will spend more time at guard than center this year

  • MICHAEL EISEN: Fiction -Center is Richburg's best position. He'll battle J.D. Walton for the starting job and could well win it.
  • JOHN SCHMEELK: Fiction -Despite the fact he has been seen at guard in practice, Tom Coughlin reiterated on Thursday that Richburg is a center. When all is said and done I think he will be the starter at that position in Week 1.

The Giants will do more no-huddle this year

  • MICHAEL EISEN: Fact -The offense is going to look much different in a lot of ways with Ben McAdoo designing game plans and calling plays. More use of the no-huddle attack should be a part of that, since Eli Manning has long performed well in those situations.
  • JOHN SCHMEELK: Fact -The first part of every team OTA this week has been the offense running no-huddle. I wouldn't expect them to run it every series this year, but they will do it more. I also expect that even in situations when the team huddled, their pace will be a lot faster.
