The Giants.com crew is presented with four statements and must decide whether they are Fact or Fiction.
The toughest individual offensive opponent on the Giants' schedule is Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
John Schmeelk: Fiction - There are some legitimate options here in Smith-Njigba, Puka Nacua, Saquon Barkley and Christian McCaffrey, just to name a few. McCaffrey's explosive play rate was down last year despite his enormous volume of touches and production. He is also into his 30's, so I will slide him out of this. The Eagles' run game with Saquon Barkley was not quite as explosive as it was the year prior, so he's out. I also want to shout out the Cowboys receivers, CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, but they are a level below Nacua and Smith-Njigba. Since the prompt used the word toughest, I will go with Nacua, since the level of toughness he plays with catching balls over the middle, taking big hits and breaking tackles is truly unmatched.
Dan Salomone: Fact – JSN had quite the Michael Jordan Year. While becoming the third player in NFL history 23 years old or younger with at least 1,700 receiving yards, he was named the AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year, earned first-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors, and won a Super Bowl. What were you doing at age 23?
Matt Citak: Fiction – It's tough to argue against the reigning Offensive Player of the Year being the toughest individual offensive opponent on the Giants' schedule. But since Dan unsurprisingly threw his support behind the former Buckeye, I'll go in a different direction. Christian McCaffrey is on the schedule in Week 13, and following his third campaign with 2,000+ total yards from scrimmage of his career, he received consideration. But I have to go with Detroit's Jahmyr Gibbs, who's had back-to-back campaigns with 1,835+ yards of offense and 18+ touchdowns, and has averaged no fewer than 5.0 yards per carry in any of his three NFL seasons. David Montgomery is gone, which means Gibbs' workload could get even bigger. Not to bring back bad memories, but Gibbs did score three touchdowns to go with 264 yards from scrimmage against the Giants last season.
The toughest individual defensive opponent on the Giants' schedule is Myles Garrett.
John Schmeelk: Fact - I'm not going to waste much time here because Garrett, aside from Aaron Donald, has been the best defensive player in the NFL for the last decade. He is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year. I don't even have to go through the rest of the schedule. How can it not be him?
Dan Salomone: Fact – They were going to see him anyway this season, but now they will do it in Week 2 instead of Week 15 after his blockbuster trade from the Browns to the Rams. Garrett is now the ninth player to win multiple AP Defensive Player of the Year honors, joining Lawrence Taylor, Joe Greene, Ray Lewis, Mike Singletary, Bruce Smith, Reggie White, J.J. Watt, and Aaron Donald.
Matt Citak: Fact – Garrett is coming off a 23-sack season as he set a new single-season record. He's been named first-team All-Pro in five of the last six seasons, and now joins a Rams defense that was already bursting with talent. The thought of Aaron Donald coming out of retirement to join Garrett on the Rams' defensive line should scare every opponent on LA's schedule, but until that officially happens (if it even does), Garrett gets the nod here.

The toughest offensive team on the schedule is the Rams.
John Schmeelk: Fact - The fact that this is not a grand slam answer shows how tough the Giants' schedule is going to be for their defense this year. The Rams are so balanced with a great quarterback, consistent running game, solid offensive line and a pair of dynamic wide receivers. But the Cowboys offense can say the same thing. The Lions maintain one of the top offenses in the league with Jared Goff under center. The Jaguars came on as one of the league's best offenses in the second half of last season. When healthy, the 49ers have one of the most consistent offenses led by one of the best offensive minds in the NFL. But Stafford is the best quarterback of the group, and McVay is one of the two best offensive minds (along with Shanahan), so the Rams win.
Dan Salomone: Fact – You can accomplish a lot with an elite head coach and MVP quarterback. The Rams have both in Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford, who are separated in age by only two years. They were No. 1 in the NFL last season across the board in total yards, passing yards, and scoring.
Matt Citak: Fact – The Rams were the best offensive team in the NFL in 2025 as they led in numerous categories, most notably points scored and yards gained. Matthew Stafford threw for over 4,700 yards with 46 touchdowns and eight interceptions, which led to him being named league MVP for the first time in his illustrious career. Kyren Williams and Blake Corum are a formidable running back duo that combined for around 2,000 rushing yards and 19 total touchdowns. Meanwhile, Puka Nacua led the NFL with 129 receptions, which he took for 1,715 yards and 10 touchdowns, while Davante Adams added a league-high 14 receiving touchdowns. The Rams are oozing with talent at every position, which is why they are currently the odds on favorite to win this year's Super Bowl.
The toughest defensive team on the schedule is the Texans.
John Schmeelk: Fact - I was about to write that this question was just as easy as the Myles Garrett question, but the Rams and Seahawks are also on the schedule. So are the Eagles, and those three teams might be the best defenses in the NFC. I do think, however, that the Texans are on their own special level. They have a pair of top edge rushers (Danielle Hunter & Will Anderson), cornerbacks (Derek Stingley Jr. & Kamari Lassiter) and other impact defenders like Kalen Pitre, Calen Bullock, and Azeez Al-Shaair. The edge goes to Houston.
Dan Salomone: Fiction – I'll give the tiebreaker to the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks, whose defense ranked first in scoring and third downs, second in goal-to-goal touchdown efficiency, and fifth in red zone touchdown efficiency. They make the plays when they matter most.
Matt Citak: Fact – As I mentioned earlier, the Rams defense with Myles Garrett, and potentially Aaron Donald, would be a fearsome unit that likely would have made me give a different answer here. But since Donald is still technically in retirement, I'm going with a Houston defense that finished first in yards and second in points allowed last season. The Texans defense featured six Pro Bowlers last year, and that doesn't even include Danielle Hunter and his 15.0 sacks. Hunter and Will Anderson form potentially the best edge rushing duo in the NFL up front, while the secondary consists of talented pieces such as Derek Stingley Jr., Kamari Lassiter and Calen Bullock. Then there is linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair, fresh off his first Pro Bowl campaign. While they certainly have some competition here, the Texans are the toughest defensive team on the schedule.
