Field Yates, Bucky Brooks release new mock drafts

Mock draft season continues as two of the best in the industry have released their latest predictions for next month's draft.

First up is ESPN's Field Yates, who projected the first two rounds in his latest mock.

With the fifth pick, Yates has the Giants boosting the secondary with the selection of Ohio State safety Caleb Downs.

"Downs has been a dominant force longer than any other defender in this class," wrote Yates. "The former Alabama and Ohio State All-American is a shapeshifter, deploying down in the box against the run or patrolling the back end with excellent coverage range."

As the analyst mentions, Downs began his career at Alabama, where he was named SEC Freshman of the Year after registering 107 total tackles (70 solo), two interceptions, four passes defensed, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery across 14 games. The 6-foot, 206-pound safety then entered the transfer portal after Nick Saban's departure from Tuscaloosa, which led to him landing at Ohio State.

Downs only got better during his two seasons with the Buckeyes. He was named Unanimous All-American, Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year, and first-team All-Big Ten after both of his seasons in Columbus, while playing a big role in Ohio State's run to a National Championship in 2024.

After his standout 2025 campaign, Downs also took home the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation's top defensive back, in addition to the Lott Trophy and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.

Yates then has the Giants addressing the offensive line with the selection of Texas A&M guard Chase Bisontis at No. 37.

"The Giants have a strong offensive tackle duo, but they must have plenty of interior offensive linemen to keep quarterback Jaxson Dart upright," the draft analyst wrote. "Bisontis has excellent hands, is an athletic redirector in pass protection and brings position versatility. He would really boost the Giants' guard position, and he has prior starting experience at right tackle, too."

During his freshman season at Texas A&M, Bisontis started 12 games at right tackle, where he earned first-team All-SEC Freshman honors.

The 6-foot-5, 315-pound lineman then shifted inside where he took his game to another level. In each of his two seasons starting at left guard, Bisontis was credited with allowing just one sack each year, along with 22 total pressures across 673 pass block snaps.

The conference's coaches named Bisontis third-team All-SEC for his performance this past season.

NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah released his third ranking of the top 50 prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft.

NFL Network's Bucky Brooks also released his updated predictions, but kept his mock draft to the first 32 picks. While he does have the Giants selecting an Ohio State defender, he went with linebacker Sonny Styles with the fifth pick.

"Pairing Styles with free-agent signing Tremaine Edmunds behind a salty front that features Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns, Abdul Carter and Kayvon Thibodeaux would give the Giants a rock-solid foundation for a potential top-five defense," Brooks stated.

For his first two yearts at Ohio State, Styles lined up at safety, playing 23 games across those two seasons. He then switched to linebacker in 2024, which led to his career taking off.

Styles played 16 games as a junior and finished the season with 100 total tackes (48 solo), six sacks, 10.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and five passes defensed on his way to being named second-team All-Big Ten.

This past season, he started 14 games and registered 82 total tackles (46 solo), one sack, 6.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one interception and three pass breakups across 14 games. His performance on the field led to him being earning first-team All-American honors in addition to first-team All-Big Ten.

Styles then dazzled scouts last month at the Combine. He ran a 4.46 40-yard dash, which tied his college teammate Arvell Reese for the fastest time of any linebacker or defensive linemen this year. Meanwhile, his 43.5-inch vertical was the highest for any player 6-foot-4 or taller and any player weighing 240 or more pounds since at least 2003. Additionally, his 11-foot-2 broad jump was the best mark among the linebackers and D-linemen last Thursday and the fourth-best mark of any linebacker in the last 15 years.

According to NFL Research, Styles is the only player to run a sub-4.5 40-yard dash with a vertical of 40+ inches and a broad jump of 11+ feet while weighing at least 230 pounds since 2003. Based on purely numbers from the Combine, Styles registered as taller than Mike Evans, faster than George Pickens, quicker than Patrick Peterson, jumps higher than Davante Adams, more explosive than Derwin James Jr., and heavier than Trent Cole.

His 9.99 Relative Athletic Score ranked 4th out of 3,216 qualifying linebackers dating back to 1987.

NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks revealed his updated position rankings for the 2026 NFL Draft.
