1)** Jacquian Williams had a busy day on the far field at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center. He didn't have an interception, but the speedy linebacker was all over the place on Wednesday, breaking up passes like he did in the preseason opener in Pittsburgh. His first was on a ball from David Carr intended for Hakeem Nicks. Williams closed quickly to the sideline and made it there in time to swat it away. Williams also spoiled an Eli Manning goal-line touchdown by wrestling the ball away from tight end Brandon Myers.

3) The Giants were in full pads today, which meant some 9-on-7 action across the middle of the field to work on the run game on both sides of the ball. The biggest takeaway is that defensive coordinator Perry Fewell continues to throw out every look imaginable and we'll all see what sticks come the regular season. "We'll be very multiple," Fewell said yesterday. "Personnel wise, we have guys that fit a 4-3. We have guys that fit a lot of different defensive combinations and so I'm going to build a defense based on our personnel."
4) The Giants continued to work heavily near the goal line. There were some good battles, which included a couple pass breakups (Williams and Aaron Ross) and touchdowns (Ramses Barden and Victor Cruz). Red-zone offense was an area of concern last season, and that reared its head on the Giants' first drive in the preseason opener. After Damontre Moore's blocked punt, they were unable to punch it in from the five-yard line and went three-and-out. Of Wednesday's practice in the red zone, head coach Tom Coughlin said, "We've worked down in there. We've worked two or three days down in there. Hopefully, it's a little bit better than it was. We'll see. It's sporadic. The defense makes a play, about every third play the offense made a play."
5) The play of the day went to Laron Scott, who notched his third interception of camp with a spectacular catch. Matching strides with wide receiver Louis Murphy, Scott extended his hands at the last second to haul in David Carr's pass attempt over his shoulder. The second-year cornerback out of Georgia Southern showed tremendous speed and focus to stay with the pass and his receiver on a windy day in the Meadowlands.
