Injury Update: QB J.J. McCarthy (hip) returns

JJ-MCCARTHY

Quarterback J.J. McCarthy suffered a hip injury in the second half of Sunday's game in Philadelphia. He was initially listed as questionable to return but has since returned to the game.

McCarthy took a big hit from Eagles linebacker Zack Baun with 12:02 left in the third quarter after running for three yards. Baun also injured his back on the play.

McCarthy was replaced by Jameis Winston, who has already started four games this season in place of the injured Jaxson Dart.

Before the injury, McCarthy had completed nine of 13 passes for 101 yards against the Eagles. He was sacked five times while making his second consecutive start with the Giants.

Called into action in the middle of a game again, Winston completed six of eight passes for 71 yards and the Giants' first touchdown of the afternoon to tight end Isaiah Likely. It put the Giants ahead 13-8 with 2:25 left in the third quarter.

McCarthy returned to action on the team's next possession.
