NFL.com's ideal draft picks for Giants

We are officially two weeks away from the start of the 2026 NFL Draft, which means things are beginning to heat up.

Next Gen Stats recently put out a list of 20 ideal team-prospect fits that "could actually happen in Round 1." The first player-team match on the defensive side of the ball is the Giants and Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles.

"Styles' stellar college career at Ohio State and superhuman combine performance earned him an NGS overall draft score of 95, trailing only Jeremiyah Love's 96 in this class," the article states. "No inside linebacker has been selected in the top five since 2019 (Devin White), but Styles might be too tantalizing for John Harbaugh's Giants to pass on. Harbaugh's best defenses have relied on outstanding linebackers such as Ray Lewis, C.J. Mosley and Roquan Smith.

Styles played 16 games as a junior and finished the season with 100 total tackes (48 solo), six sacks, 10.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and five passes defensed on his way to being named second-team All-Big Ten.

This past season, he started 14 games and registered 82 total tackles (46 solo), one sack, 6.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one interception and three pass breakups across 14 games. His performance on the field led to him being earning first-team All-American honors in addition to first-team All-Big Ten.

NGS added, "This former safety is at his best in coverage, but he is also a run-game wrecker with outstanding instincts for shedding blocks. A duo of Styles and Tremaine Edmunds manning the middle of the field could spark a turnaround for a defense that allowed +494 rushing yards over expected in 2025, the worst mark in the league."

Styles put on a show at this month's NFL Combine. He ran a 4.46 40-yard dash, which tied his college teammate Arvell Reese for the fastest time of any linebacker or defensive linemen this year. Meanwhile, his 43.5-inch vertical was the highest for any player 6-foot-4 or taller and any player weighing 240 or more pounds since at least 2003. Additionally, his 11-foot-2 broad jump was the best mark among the linebackers and D-linemen last Thursday and the fourth-best mark of any linebacker in the last 15 years.

According to NFL Research, Styles is the only player to run a sub-4.5 40-yard dash with a vertical of 40+ inches and a broad jump of 11+ feet while weighing at least 230 pounds since 2003. Based on purely numbers from the Combine, Styles registered as taller than Mike Evans, faster than George Pickens, quicker than Patrick Peterson, jumps higher than Davante Adams, more explosive than Derwin James Jr., and heavier than Trent Cole.

His 9.99 Relative Athletic Score ranked 4th out of more than 3,400 qualifying linebackers dating back to 1987.

NGS was not alone in thinking Styles would be a great fit with the Giants. NFL.com's Eric Edholm released his ideal top two picks for every team across the NFL. Styles was the pick at No. 5, while Oregon guard Emmanuel Pregnon was his choice for the Giants at No. 37.

"If Jeremiyah Love is off the board, I think the Giants' first pick comes down to Styles vs. Caleb Downs," wrote Edholm. "I went with Styles because he's the more impressive physical specimen and could be unleashed as a future star behind a good front. Pregnon fits the Giants' need for more OL help and fits the physical tone John Harbaugh wants to set, as evidenced by the team's free-agency moves to this point. Two picks, two possible immediate starters -- not too shabby."

The 6-foot-4, 314-pound lineman was named first-team All-American this past season after allowing just three total pressures, including zero sacks, on 382 pass block snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.

In fact, you would have to go all the way back to 2022 to find the last time Pregnon was credited with allowing a sack. He surrendered one sack and five total pressures on 251 pass block snaps in his one year at Wyoming on his way to being named Freshman All-American. He then transferred to USC in 2023, where he did not give up a sack over his two seasons with the Trojans.

He finished his collegiate career with just one sack allowed on 1,621 pass block snaps, almost all of which were spent at guard.

NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah released his fourth ranking of the top 50 prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft.

The Giants are back at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center for the start of the 2026 offseason workout program.
