Snap Counts: Week 4 usage & takeaways

KAYVON-THIBODEAUX

The Giants picked up their first victory of the season on Sunday as they defeated the Chargers 21-18 at MetLife Stadium.

It was the second of back-to-back home games against the AFC West, which the Giants ended up splitting. In Week 5, they will hit the road to take on the 0-4 New Orleans Saints.

Here are snap counts and takeaways from the Week 4 matchup.

Quarterbacks

  • Jaxson Dart - 74 offensive snaps (97.4 percent)
  • Russell Wilson - 2 offensive snaps (2.6 percent)

Dart made his first NFL start and helped lead the Giants to their first win of the season. He was forced to the sideline for two plays in order to get evaluated for a concussion, but returned to the field once he cleared protocol. The rookie completed 13 of 20 passes (65.0 percent) for 111 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions, good for a 96.0 passer rating. He also added 10 carries for 54 yards and another touchdown. Wilson took the field for two plays while Dart was out and completed his only pass attempt for eight yards.

Running Backs

  • Cam Skattebo - 57 offensive snaps (75.0 percent)
  • Devin Singletary - 19 offensive snaps, 2 special teams snaps (25.0 percent, 8.3 percent)

Tyrone Tracy Jr. suffered a shoulder injury last week, which led to Skattebo receiving a significant increase in snaps. The rookie running back handled a career-high 25 carries, which he took for 79 yards, and added two receptions for 11 yards. Singletary played a quarter of the team's offensive snaps and finished the game with 28 yards on seven carries. He also returned two kickoffs for 53 yards (26.5-yard average).

Wide Receivers

  • Wan'Dale Robinson - 74 offensive snaps (97.4 percent)
  • Darius Slayton - 66 offensive snaps (86.8 percent)
  • Jalin Hyatt - 29 offensive snaps (38.2 percent)
  • Malik Nabers - 25 offensive snaps (32.9 percent)
  • Beaux Collins - 21 offensive snaps, 12 special teams snaps (27.6 percent, 50.0 percent)
  • Gunner Olszewski - 9 special teams snaps (37.5 percent)

Malik Nabers suffered a torn ACL midway through the second quarter, which led to Jalin Hyatt playing a season-high 29 offensive snaps. Meanwhile, Robinson rarely left the field while Slayton played a majority of snaps, too. The latter ended up leading the team with three receptions for 44 yards, while the former tied with a team-high five targets.

Tight Ends

  • Theo Johnson - 53 offensive snaps (69.7 percent)
  • Daniel Bellinger - 24 offensive snaps, 12 special teams snaps (31.6 percent, 50.0 percent)
  • Chris Manhertz - 12 offensive snaps, 12 special teams snaps (15.8 percent, 50.0 percent)

Johnson tied Robinson for the team-lead in targets with five. He caught three of them for 17 yards and a touchdown, the first of Jaxson Dart's NFL career. Bellinger and Manhertz mostly contributed on special teams, although the former did pull in his only target for 13 yards.

Offensive Linemen

  • Andrew Thomas - 76 offensive snaps (100 percent)
  • Jermaine Eluemunor - 76 offensive snaps, 3 special teams snaps (100 percent, 12.5 percent)
  • Jon Runyan - 76 offensive snaps (100 percent)
  • Greg Van Roten - 76 offensive snaps, 3 special teams snaps (100 percent, 12.5 percent)
  • John Michael Schmitz - 76 offensive snaps (100 percent)
  • James Hudson III - 3 special teams snaps (12.5 percent)
  • Austin Schlottmann - 3 special teams snaps (12.5 percent)
  • Aaron Stinnie - 3 special teams snaps (12.5 percent)

One week after being limited to just 28 snaps, Thomas was on the field for every offensive snap in Week 4. Not only was he out there for every play, but he also looked like his usual self, surrendering no pressures on 30 pass blocks, according to Next Gen Stats. All five of the team's starting linemen were on the field for every offensive snap, while Hudson, Schlottmann, and Stinnie played three snaps on special teams.

Per usual, Lawrence led the defensive linemen in snaps played with 45. The 6-foot-4, 340-pound lineman registered the first interception of his NFL career, which he returned 37 yards and almost scored a touchdown. He also added a tackle for loss to his final stats. • Swayze Bozeman - 21 special teams snaps (87.5 percent)
  • Neville Hewitt - 20 special teams snaps (83.3 percent)

The pass rush had perhaps its best game yet as the Giants generated pressure on an impressive 47.7 percent of Justin Herbert's drop-backs. Carter (eight), Burns (six) and Thibodeaux (six) combined for 20 quarterback pressures, according to NGS, along with 12 quarterback hits. Okereke was on the field for every defensive snap, while Muasau played about half of the defensive snaps and finished with a team-high six tackles, including one for loss.

Phillips put together a strong bounce-back performance in Week 4. The second-year slot corner was targeted seven times in coverage, of which only two were caught for 10 yards, and he picked up his second interception of the season to go with four passes defensed. Flott finished second on the team with five tackles, while Adebo earned a 63.5 passer rating when targeted, the lowest mark on the team. Finishing right behind Adebo was Nubin, who had a 64.6 passer rating when targeted.
