Giants add LB Benardrick McKinney to active roster

BENARDRICK-MCKINNEY-PRIMEPOINT

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Benardrick McKinney, a helpful addition to the defense the last three games, officially joined the Giants' 53-man roster late this afternoon.

The seventh-year linebacker was signed off the Giants' practice squad, which he joined on Oct. 18. McKinney was elevated to the active roster for games against Carolina on Oct. 24 and at Kansas City on Nov. 1. Ten days ago, he was a COVID-19 roster replacement for the Giants' victory against the Las Vegas Raiders.

In three games, McKinney has played 60 defensive snaps and has nine tackles (five solo).

He joins an inside linebacker group that includes Tae Crowder, Reggie Ragland and Cam Brown. Blake Martinez and Carter Coughlin are on injured reserve.

McKinney, who played his first six seasons with the Houston Texans, has started 77 of the 83 regular-season games in which he's played. He was a 2018 Pro Bowler with the Texans.

*The Giants also signed veteran running back Jonathan Williams to their practice squad.

From 2016-20, Williams played one season each for Buffalo, Indianapolis, New Orleans and Detroit. This year, he was on the Washington Football Team's practice squad from Sept. 6 to Nov. 2.

In 28 games – including one start – he has rushed for 334 yards and two touchdowns on 80 carries and caught 11 passes for 81 yards.

Williams was a 2016 fifth-round draft choice by the Bills, from the University of Arkansas.
