ROSTER-MOVE-PRIMEPOINT

The New York Giants today signed linebacker Malik Harrison to the active roster and added veteran outside linebacker Dawuane Smoot to the practice squad.

Harrison joined the Giants' practice squad 10 days before the season opener and proceeded to be elevated for each of their first three games. He played 56 snaps on special teams (84.8 percent of the team's total) and recorded two tackles in addition to a fumble recovery on the opening kickoff of the Giants' Week 3 victory over the Titans.

Overall, the 6-foot-3, 245-pound Harrison has played in 90 games (43 starts) with the Ravens (2020-24), Steelers (2025) and Giants (2026). A third-round pick by Baltimore in 2020, the Ohio State product has totaled 181 tackles, nine tackles for loss, four quarterback hits, two sacks, one pass defensed and one fumble recovery. He also owns 36 special teams tackles.

Smoot, 6-3 and 275 pounds, has played in 127 regular-season games (21 starts). Eight of his nine NFL seasons were spent across two stints with the Jaguars (2017-23, 2025). Smoot also played for the Bills in 2024.

His career numbers include 167 total tackles, 27 sacks, 73 quarterback hits, 35 tackles for loss, six passes defensed, seven forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. His 25.5 sacks with the Jaguars rank 10th in franchise history.

Smoot also has five quarterback hits in seven postseason appearances, including two conference championship games.

Smoot was selected by Jacksonville in the third round (No. 68 overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft. He was a team captain at the University of Illinois, finishing tied for sixth in program history with 38.5 tackles for loss and eighth with 16.5 sacks. Smoot overlapped for two seasons (2014-15) with Jihad Ward, another outside linebacker who rejoined the Giants on Oct. 10.

They bolstered a defensive front seven that recently lost Chauncey Golston and Brian Burns due to injuries.

Per NFL rules, each practice squad player can be elevated for a maximum of three regular-season games in the same league year. After this, any subsequent elevation of the player will require the team to add him to their 53-man roster.
