Giants sign OLB Jihad Ward off Vikings practice squad

ROSTER-MOVE-PRIMEPOINT

The Giants are bringing back a familiar face to the defensive front as the team signed outside linebacker Jihad Ward off the Minnesota Vikings' practice squad.

The move comes in the wake of veteran Brian Burns being placed on injured reserve after suffering a torn ACL in Week 3.

Ward spent two seasons with the Giants from 2022-2023. He played in 34 games with 20 starts during that stretch and totaled 67 tackles (44 solo), 12 tackles for loss, eight sacks, 22 quarterback hits, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and four passes defensed.

The 32-year-old entered the league as a second-round pick (No. 44 overall) of the Raiders in 2016. He has spent time with the Raiders (2016-17), Colts (2018-2019), Ravens (2019-2020), Jaguars (2021), Giants (2022-2023), Vikings (2024), Titans (2025) and had just recently signed back to the Vikings practice squad a few weeks ago.

His career totals include 199 tackles (105 solo), 29 tackles for loss, 24 sacks, 95 quarterback hits, three forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, and 12 passes defensed in 136 games (49 starts).

Ward played in 21 games in Baltimore under head coach John Harbaugh and also spent the 2025 season in Tennessee with defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson. Playing in all 17 games for the Titans last season, Ward set a new career-high with 22 quarterback hits and matched his previous career-best marks of five sacks and four passes defensed.

Prior to being drafted, Ward played two years at Illinois after transferring from Globe Institute of Technology in New York. As a senior 2015, Ward started all 12 games and played both defensive end and tackle, where he totaled 53 tackles, 1.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and two passes defensed. In 2014, he started all 13 games at defensive end and tallied 51 tackles, 3.0 sacks, and two forced fumbles. He also registered four fumble recoveries, which led the Big Ten and ranked second in the FBS.
