Bobby McCain kicks off minicamp with 2 INTs

MCCAIN-QUAKER

The New York Giants opened minicamp on Tuesday at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center. Although it is largely an extension of organized team activities (OTAs), coach Brian Daboll said they are adding some things in the final week of on-field workouts before breaking until training camp.

"I'd say we have a lot [installed] – not everything, but a lot," Daboll said before practice. "We're adding some more things. Today, we'll do some more team periods but with their helmets off, we'll do some short yardage, some goal line and introduce some more things. Keep increasing the installation, and then go out there and have some call-it periods, albeit 7-on-7 where the coordinators are just calling the plays. There's no scripts. Try to build on our communication, our fundamentals and keep on stacking days together."

Meanwhile, two Hall of Famers were on hand at practice today in Bill Parcells and Michael Strahan – so was the franchise's all-time rushing touchdown leader and two-time Super Bowl champion Brandon Jacobs. Here's everything that unfolded in front of them on the field:

TAKEAWAYS

🔹 We'll lead off with takeaways today because one of them led to a touchdown. Veteran Bobby McCain had perhaps the best single practice of anyone this spring, intercepting two passes and returning one for a touchdown. Before signing with the Giants in March, McCain was originally a fifth-round draft pick by Miami in 2015 and played six seasons with the Dolphins and the last two with the Commanders. He has played in 121 regular-season games with 87 starts.

TOUCHDOWNS

🔹 With a lot of work near the goal line, Daniel Jones threw short touchdowns to wide receivers Isaiah Hodgins, Parris Campbell, and Jamison Crowder (twice). Jones later hit wide receiver Darius Slayton for a score during a 7-on-7 period.

🔹 Backup Tyrod Taylor threw touchdowns to wide receivers Collin Johnson and David Sills V, who caught a pair on opposite sides of the end zone.

🔹 Wide receiver Jeff Smith, who played his first four seasons nearby with the Jets, made a nice toe-tapping catch in the back of the end zone on a Taylor pass.

🔹 Taylor also used his legs for a rushing touchdown, of which he has 19 on his career resume.

TOP PLAYS

🔹 McCain also broke up a pass in addition to his two interceptions.

🔹 During a "move the ball" period, Jones did exactly that by hitting Campbell on four consecutive pass completions. Campbell showed his speed on the first one, turning up the field for a sizable gain.

🔹 Linebacker Carter Coughlin and second-year cornerback Cor'Dale Flott broke up passes.
