After playing two games in five days, the Giants had an extended break to gear up for their trip to Denver. But they can't bask in the Thursday night victory over the Eagles.
They will face a Broncos team that has allowed an average of 10 points on their current three-game winning streak. Coach Brian Daboll spoke before Wednesday's practice at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center to preview the matchup ahead.
Here is everything you need to know.
📰 The Giants opened the practice window for outside linebacker Victor Dimukeje, who played his first four seasons with the Cardinals before signing with the team in free agency. The veteran suffered a pectoral injury over the offseason and spent training camp on the non-football injury list. He was then placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list when the 53-man roster was announced.
📰 The Giants will see about the status of wide receiver Darius Slayton, who missed Thursday night's win over the Eagles due to a hamstring injury. "He's getting better. He might be off to the side."
📰 Center John Michael Schmitz is in the concussion protocol. Austin Schlottmann will get all his reps today. "Confident in all the guys we have. That's why they're here. [Schlottmann] did what he needed to do, which was to come in and operate at the center for us. He did a nice job. He'll get all the reps today."
📰 Linebackers Swayze Bozeman (ankle) and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (hamstring) did not practice
📰 Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph is "really coaching incredible football right now." Denver, which held the Jets to 92 total yards on Sunday in London, ranks No. 1 in red zone scoring, third downs and sacks. "They're impressive. They're impressive every game. They create a lot of negative plays. They have 30 sacks in six games. There were nine last week, I think. They rotate guys. But [Broncos outside linebacker Nik] Bonitto is an unbelievable pass rusher. You can't have a plan for all of them. They all can rush. I think 12 guys have at least a sack on their defense. We've got the reigning defensive player of the year, as a corner, [Pat] Surtain II, an Alabama guy. They're just really good. They play good coverage, complemented with the front. They disguise well. They're as good as it gets right now."
📰 Daboll has known Broncos offensive pass game coordinator/quarterbacks coach Davis Webb for a long time. Webb played for Daboll with the Bills and Giants before beginning his coaching career in 2023. "He was a pleasure to work with. Incredibly smart. Could see the game the right way. He's always primarily been a backup quarterback. But (he) offered a lot of good insight in those meetings. Someone I have a great deal of respect for. Working with him, player-coach. But now on the coaching side of it, I'm proud of him. Not a lot of guys just do that and jump right in and become a quarterback coach. He's done a great job with Bo. But this is Coach [Sean] Payton's offense. Coach Payton's got 180-plus wins. Super Bowl. Go on and on. But Davis was one of my favorite guys that I had to work with in my time at Buffalo and here. He's doing a great job."
📰 The Broncos put opposing offenses in "bad situations" and "then you're on the road with a loud environment." They have to play good team football all the way around.
📰 The Giants have scored on their opening drive in three consecutive games for the first time since 2009. It's a credit to all 11 players doing their job. "You have 10 guys doing the right thing and one guy not, it could be a recipe for a very bad play. We're just focused on trying to do our job the best we can."
📰 The energy outside of the building is high with Jaxson Dart now 2-1 as the starter, but it's "business as usual" inside. "We have a very tough team to get prepared for. You only have a certain amount of time. Nothing really changes relative to preparing for a team."
