2026 Spring Practices

Practice Report (6/9): Sideline observations

JAXSON-DART-BOBS

The Giants conducted their final full minicamp practice on Tuesday. Weather was a bit warmer than yesterday with sunny skies and temperatures in the 80's with a light breeze. John Harbaugh said Wednesday's practice will be more of "mental sweat" type practice. It is scheduled to last just over an hour.

* The secondary was very active on Tuesday, but the offense started the team portion of practice hot. After a Cam Skattebo run on the first play of team, Jaxson Dart hit Isaiah Likely down the field for a catch right before Tyler Nubin could get his hands on the football as he closed very quickly on the play.

* A play later, Jaxson Dart found Odell Beckham Jr. over the top for a touchdown on what looked like a blown coverage. Beckham would make another play down the field heading towards the right sideline for a sizeable gain. Calvin Austin also caught a deep post from Dart on a high arcing pass down the middle of the field.

* Brian Burns was active in practice again, putting himself in position to make a potential tackle for loss on a short pass to Devin Singletary. He was also in the backfield around the quarterback on a number of successful pass rushes, including one on a pressure package that left the secondary in one-on-one situations across the field.

* Later in the first team period, Jevon Holland read a screen pass and got outside the wall of blockers and put himself in perfect position to stop the play right near the line of scrimmage.

* Edge rusher Khalid Kareem had a big day with more than one potential sack. The seven-year pro out of Notre Dame is 271 pounds at outside linebacker, but has flashed some pass rushing chops this spring.

* Rookie Bobby Jamison-Travis got some pressure on a pass play during the first team period right before Deonte Banks picked off a pass in his deep zone down the left sideline.

* In the next period, the defense seemed to be working on a number of pressure packages, including some all-out blitzes. Kayvon Thibodeaux had a potential sack which forced Dart out of the pocket. Jack Kelly had a would be sack on a blitz. Nic Jones came on a slot blitz for a potential sack, but the quarterback got the ball out just in time. Fortunately for the defense, it was picked off by Elijah Campbell on the right side of the field. Jones would grab an interception of his own later in practice.

* Rico Payton finished the pressure period with a pass breakup, and later in practice he got a takeaway after securing an interception off a deflection. Colton Hood had a deflection on a pass intended for Darnell Mooney.

* Tremaine Edmunds grabbed an interception of his own on a pass that was thrown between the safeties and linebackers, but Edmunds used his large wingspan to pluck it out of the air.

* Dalen Cambre had a tremendous one handed catch from Jameis Winston for a potential long gain down the field.

* Dominic Zvada was perfect kicking field goals again as he went five for five with makes from 53 and 56 yards. He finished the spring strong and very consistent over the last two weeks.

* Dru Phillips made a couple of plays in 7-on-7, which forced a pair of incompletions. Micah McFadden knocked away a short pass over the middle. Greg Newsome forced an incompletion on a slant. The offense managed touchdowns on two of the final three plays of the period. It started with Dart connecting with JuJu Smith-Schuster for a touchdown on a slant, and then the second-year quarterback hit Tanner Connor on an off-schedule play. Both scores came from inside the 10-yard line.

* In the final team period, Jameis Winston did a nice job of stepping up in the pocket to find Ryan Miller for a short catch. Caleb Murphy had a potential sack in the period. Brandon Allen connected with Darnell Mooney on a perfectly thrown fade route for a touchdown.

* The team also worked on a lot of situations throughout practice, including a half-speed Hail Mary pass. At the end of practice, the offense worked on completing a pass in-bounds before lining up quickly to kick a field goal before time expired. They also had two goal-to-go series, with Jaxson Dart hitting Isaiah Likely for a touchdown and Jameis Winston throwing to Tanner Conner on another. Greg Newsome also jumped a slant for an interception towards the end of practice.
