Practice Report (6/3): View from the sideline

DEONTE-BANKS-BOBS

The Giants had their ninth OTA on Wednesday with temperatures in the 80s under bright skies with little wind.

* In the first team period, Micah McFadden got into the backfield right before Jameis Winston unloaded a deep pass down the sideline to Odell Beckham Jr., but Deonte Banks played sound coverage and prevented the catch. Banks played good coverage on another deep pass later in practice, preventing a catch to Darnell Mooney. Ar'Darius Washington also had a pass break-up on a pass over the middle

* Mooney did catch a deep pass thrown by Jaxson Dart, who perfectly placed the ball over Mooney's shoulder and towards the left sideline. Newcomer Braxton Berrios had back to back catches in the first team period, including a seam pass from Jameis Winston. Beckham made a great catch on a pass slightly behind him, getting his hands back to control the football. JuJu Smith-Schuster also caught a slant from Brandon Allen.

* The lone touchdown in the first team period came from Allen, who scrambled to his right and connected with a wide open Xavier Gipson.

* Dart opened 7-on-7 with a pass to Isaiah Likely between the hash and numbers down the left side of the field for a big gain. Jason Pinnock knocked away a pass intended for Calvin Austin III. Four plays later, Raheem Layne came down on a pass over the middle and knocked it away before it could reach Beckham.

* During the second team period, Abdul Carter flew into the backfield on a play Dart connected with Austin for a short catch. On a designed quarterback run, Jevón Holland and Tremaine Edmunds closed quickly for a potential tackle for loss. Arvell Reese was in the area, too. Two plays later, Reese flew towards the quarterback unblocked for a potential sack. Edmunds chased down Dante Miller for a potential tackle for loss on the next play. Four plays later, Caleb Murphy tracked Jameis Winston on a naked bootleg quarterback keeper for a potential tackle for loss.

* The final play of the period was a good throw from Winston to Austin for a touchdown down the sideline, after Zaire Barnes forced Winston to scramble to his left.

* The final team period was in the red zone. Both possessions ended in field goals for the offense. Reese had a strong run stop on Dante Miller.
