Mike Bloomgren has 28 years of coaching experience at both the collegiate and professional levels. He is entering his first season as the offensive line coach for the New York Giants, the same role he had with the Cleveland Browns in 2025.
Before his season in Cleveland, Bloomgren was the head coach at Rice University from 2018 to 2024. Under his leadership, Rice appeared in consecutive bowl games (2022 and 2023) for only the fourth time in school history. In 2023, the Owls defeated Houston in the Bayou Bucket Classic, marking their first win in the rivalry since 2010.
Bloomgren spent seven seasons (2011-17) on staff at Stanford University in a variety of roles. He coached the offensive line in 2011-12, served as the offensive coordinator in 2013 and was the offensive coordinator/associate head coach from 2014-17.
Stanford won at least eight games each season Bloomgren was on staff, reaching the Pac-12 Championship four times and winning three conference titles. Bloomgren's time at Stanford was highlighted by running backs Christian McCaffrey and Bryce Love, both Heisman Trophy and Doak Walker Award finalists.
Bloomgren has a history of working with the McCaffrey family, coaching Christian at Stanford and his brother, wide receiver Luke McCaffrey, at Rice. At Stanford, Christian totaled 6,987 all-purpose yards and was voted the 2015 AP player of the Year, while Luke was selected in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders, making him the highest selected player from Rice since 2014.
Prior to Stanford, Bloomgren held his first opportunity in the NFL with the New York Jets from 2007 to 2010. He first joined the Jets staff as an offensive quality control coach, before being named an offensive assistant in 2009 and the assistant offensive coordinator in 2010. As Bloomgren's roles increased with the Jets organization, so did the success of the franchise. In his first season on staff, the Jets posted a 4-12 record. In 2009 and 2010, the Jets combined for a 20-12 overall record and appeared in consecutive AFC Championship games.
Bloomgren served as the offensive coordinator at Delta State (2005-06) and as the co-offensive coordinator (2002-04) at Catawba College. He broke through in coaching as an analyst at Florida State (1997-98) before three seasons as a graduate assistant at the University of Alabama.
A native of Tallahassee, Fla., Bloomgren and his wife, Lara, have two sons, Tyler and Parker. He attended Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo., where he played tight end. He graduated from Florida State in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in sports management and obtained a master's degree in higher education from Alabama in 2001.
