Practice Report (4/23): Veteran minicamp wraps up

TYLER-NUBIN-BOBS

With the draft hours away, I will be short and sweet with the practice report from the third and final practice of veteran minicamp. It was a beautiful day with temperatures in the 60s and touching 70 by the end of practice under sunny skies. Practice lasted just about two hours.

* Tyrone Tracy Jr. started the 7-on-7 red-zone drills with a one-handed catch, tipping a pass to himself and gaining control before Micah McFadden could knock it away.

* Tremaine Edmunds' size is visibly jarring. He looks like a linebacker from Carl Banks' era with his height and length. He did a nice job closing quickly on a check-down to Devin Singletary.

* Dru Phillips played great coverage throughout practice, starting with a forced incompletion on a pass intended for Isaiah Likely in the end zone, and then another on a pass to Theo Johsnon. Later, he made a heady play on a deep post over the middle to prevent a long catch by Gunner Olszewski.

* Korie Black made two good plays in the same period to halt scoring attempts. He prevented a completion to Theo Johnson on a fade in the corner that sailed over the tight end's head and kept a slant from being completed to Likely near the goal line.

* Jameis Winston hit Ryan Miller perfectly in stride on a shallow crosser, allowing him to turn it up-field and run into the end zone.

* The defensive line got into the mix throughout practice once they went to team portions. Brian Burns and Abdul Carter both got near the quarterback multiple times. On one play, Carter forced the quarterback to step up in the pocket into the awaiting Darius Alexander, who had multiple pressures. Chauncey Golston batted a pass down near the line of scrimmage. Coverage was often tight.

* Cornerback Rico Payton shined in team portions of practice, as did fellow cornerback Jarrick Bernard-Converse, who forced an incompletion on a low pass into the right flat.

* Jaxson Dart finished practice on a strong note in the final team red zone period, putting excellent touch on a ball to Theo Johnson, who had slipped behind the linebackers. It floated over the defense's head and into Johnson's hands, who got his feet in and scored the touchdown. Celebration ensued.

* Cam Skattebo has been out there in a helmet going through all the drills, and Malik Nabers was spotted on the sideline Tuesday talking with team executives.

* The next time we will have practice reports will be OTAs in the middle of May. Enjoy the draft, everyone.
