Abdul Carter named PFF's Rookie of the Week

The Giants' pass rush showed how dominant the unit can be in the team's Week 4 win over the Chargers, led by the breakout performance of first-year outside linebacker Abdul Carter.

Pro Football Focus announced their weekly honors, which included the Giants' young outside linebacker being named Rookie of the Week.

"The No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft had the best game of his young career in the Giants' win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday," wrote PFF's Gordon McGuinness. "On the field for 35 pass-rush snaps, he recorded eight total pressures — including five quarterback hits — and earned a 92.1 PFF pass-rush grade."

As McGuinness mentions, Carter racked up an impressive five quarterback hits and eight total pressures, both of which led the team in Week 4. The five QB hits tied the record for the most by a Giants rookie since 2006, when quarterback hits became an official statistic.

Carter, Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodaux combined for 12 quarterback hits and 20 total pressures. It was only the second time in franchise history that three players had three or more quarterback hits in the same game and the first time since 2007, when Michael Strahan, Osi Umenyiora and Mathias Kiwanuka did it against the Eagles.

"It's all about competition, especially in our room, all of us want to be great; Burns has his goals and I have mine, Abdul is trying to make a name for himself in this League, so competition is what is breathing this excellence," Thibodeaux said after the game.

"He doesn't blink," coach Brian Daboll added on Monday about Carter. "He's a football player. So happy we have him."

Through four games, Carter's 19 quarterback pressures are just one behind Burns for the team lead, according to PFF.

Cornerback Dru Phillips was also named to PFF's Team of the Week for his standout performance against the Chargers.

Phillips registered his second interception of the season while breaking up four passes. He was targeted seven times in coverage and allowed just two receptions for 10 yards, which earned him a passer rating when targeted of 0.0.

Heading into Monday Night Football, Phillips' eight passes defensed leads the NFL.
