25 Questions in 25 Days: What we have learned about Abdul Carter (so far)

ABDUL-CARTER-25-Q

Giants.com is counting down to the start of 2025 Giants Training Camp with 25 questions in 25 days.

23) What have we learned about OLB Abdul Carter since the Giants drafted him third overall?

Matt Citak: As I've said over and over again on Big Blue Kickoff Live, it's hard to learn much about the offensive and defensive linemen during spring practices. There is no contact allowed, so the battles in the trenches don't have quite the same buzz as they do once the pads come on at training camp. With that being said, it was pretty easy to see that when the time does come next month, the No. 3 overall pick is going to cause some problems for the offensive line.

"Abdul has some special traits about him," coach Brian Daboll said on the final day of minicamp. "Some of them you can see out here, obviously his ability to bend and get off and create some issues in the backfield. But we have to play the run game, we have to play the pass game. He's smart, he's picked up things. We've used him in a number of different areas. I'm glad he's here, he's done a nice job."

See who led the Giants in sacks each season since it became an official statistic in 1982.

As Daboll mentioned, Carter's speed getting off the line of scrimmage certainly stood out. On numerous occasions during team drills, the ball would be snapped and within the blink of an eye, Carter would be in the quarterback's face. His quickness and ability to bend the edge is something special, but don't take it from me. Here's what the guys playing with him -- and against him -- have said about the rookie edge rusher.

"I think he's going to be a really good player," offensive tackle Jermaine Eluemunor said at minicamp. "It's been fun playing against him. He's an explosive kid and I think that it's really good to have him on this team."

"Man, he's a beast," fellow outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux added. "He's been doing his thing. He's fast, explosive, smart, excited."

Of all the players I am most excited to see once the pads come on next month, Carter sits atop the list.
