2) What can Malik Nabers do for an encore?
Matt Citak: Malik Nabers was nothing short of outstanding in his first NFL season. The 21-year-old not only set new rookie records, but he also broke the franchise's single-season reception record with his 109 catches, which he took for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns. The young wideout topped the Puka Nacua's mark for the most catches by a rookie receiver, which the Rams' star set in 2023 with 106. Nabers would have the all-time rookie reception record if it weren't for Raiders tight end Brock Bowers catching 112 passes this past season, albeit in two more games than Nabers. The Giants' star receiver registered 14 games with five or more receptions, another rookie record, while his 1,204 receiving yards ranked seventh in the league. On top of that, he also led all rookie receivers in yards after contact (256), first downs (55), and missed tackles forced (19), according to Pro Football Focus.
Now going into Year 2, what can we expect from Nabers? Well, it's tough to predict 110 or more receptions for a player. Only four pass-catchers reached that mark last year, two of which were tight ends (Bowers and Trey McBride). However, given the big change the Giants made on offense this offseason, Nabers topping last year's reception mark does not seem like too tall of a task. Of course, the change I'm referring to is the reformation of the team's quarterback room. Veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston were signed during free agency, while Jaxson Dart was selected in the first round of this year's draft. The three signal-callers join Tommy DeVito, the lone returning quarterback, in a completely different QB room this season. We know Wilson is the starter, which immediately raises the floor of this offense. Nabers was able to achieve so much success as a rookie despite the Giants playing four different quarterbacks.
Now with a full season under his belt, improved quarterback play, and hopefully a healthy offensive line, the sky is the limit for the young receiver. ESPN recently polled more than 70 NFL executives, coaches, and scouts to find the 10 best players at each position. When it came to wide receiver, Nabers landed all the way up at No. 7. I have a feeling when the same poll comes out in 2026, the Giants' star receiver will find himself firmly in the top five at his position.
"Some guys are just different," an NFC defensive coach told ESPN in their annual poll of the league's top players at each position. "You don't have to watch him long to know that."
