Dane Brugler changes Giants' pick in latest mock draft

As we see every year, the NFL Scouting Combine has led to some new projections from many draft experts for the first round of the draft.

The Athletic's Dane Brugler is the latest analyst to release a new mock draft with the Combine complete. While he still believes the Giants will address the wide receiver position in the first round, Brugler updated his prediction for the No. 6 pick to LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers.

"General manager Joe Schoen won't be able to hide his smile if Nabers is still available at No. 6," wrote Brugler. "Regardless of who's playing quarterback for the Giants, this offense drastically needs a true X receiver who changes how defenses game plan against it. Nabers is that, and more."

Nabers finished the 2023 campaign with 1,569 receiving yards, his second consecutive year with more than 1,000 yards.

The 6-foot-0, 200-pound wideout brought in 72 passes for 1,017 yards and three touchdowns as a sophomore in 2022. He followed that up with a dominant campaign that saw him catch 89 passes and lead the FBS in receiving yards while ranking No. 2 in receiving touchdowns at the conclusion of the regular-season.

Nabers registered the most 10+ yard plays, 20+ yard plays and 30+ yard plays this past season. He finished his collegiate career as LSU's all-time leader in receptions and receiving yards.

He was named Unanimous All-American and first-team All-SEC for his standout 2023 campaign.

Nabers, who doesn't turn 21 until July 28, is one of the youngest players projected to be taken in the first round of this year's draft.

In his first mock draft released in the middle of January, Brugler predicted the Giants select Washington wide receiver Rome Odunze.

Odunze was one of the top wide receivers in the country this past season as he caught 92 passes for 1,640 yards and 13 touchdowns. He registered 100 or more receiving yards in 10 out of 15 games, which led to him being named Consensus All-American in addition to first-team All-Pac-12. It marked the second consecutive season in which he was selected first-team all-conference. As a redshirt sophomore, he caught 75 passes for 1,145 yards and seven touchdowns.

NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah released his updated ranking of the top 50 prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft.
