The team signed defensive end Nordly "Cap" Capi off their practice squad and added linebacker Deontae Skinner, who was released in the roster cutdown on Sept. 2.

Linebacker J.T. Thomas was placed on injured reserve for the second year in a row, and tight end/fullback Shane Smith was waived.

Capi and Skinner are eligible to play on Sunday when the Giants visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Skinner played in four regular season games and the NFC Wild Card Game for the Giants last season. He had six special teams tackles in the regular season and one in the postseason. Last month, he played in all four preseason games and was credited with nine tackles (eight solo).

Capi, 6-3 and 247 pounds, was signed to the Giants' practice squad on Sept. 4. He spent most of the 2016 season on the practice squad of the Arizona Cardinals, who released him on Sept. 2.

With the Cardinals this preseason, he had 13 tackles (11 solo), 1.5 sacks and eight quarterback hits. Capi entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2015 and has been on the practice squads of the Baltimore Ravens and Atlanta Falcons.

Capi began his collegiate career at Colorado State before transferring to Akron, where he had 70 tackles and seven sacks in two seasons.

Thomas suffered a groin injury against Detroit on Sept. 18. He was inactive last week in Philadelphia.

In 2016, Thomas tore his ACL in the season opener in Dallas and spent the rest of the season on injured reserve. He began training camp on the active/physically unable to perform list because he was still rehabilitating the knee. Thomas passed his physical and returned to the practice field on Aug. 15.

Smith made the initial 53-man roster as a rookie free agent from San Jose State. He played in each of the first three games, starting the first two on offense and lining up on special teams last week against the Eagles. He did not have any statistics.
