The New York Giants have now traded two offensive linemen in the span of a week.
On Wednesday, they finalized a deal to send the versatile Joshua Ezeudu to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick in 2028.
The move came seven days after they traded veteran Daniel Faalele to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for their sixth-round pick in 2027. Faalele's time with the Giants lasted just over four months after they signed him as a free agent on April 9.
Ezeudu's tenure, meanwhile, spanned four seasons.
The University of North Carolina product was originally selected by the Giants in the third round (No. 67 overall) of the 2022 draft.
He played in 33 games with 10 starts – seven at left tackle, two at left guard, and one as an extra lineman – over his first three seasons. In 2025, he was placed on injured reserve during training camp and did not play the entire season.
Harbaugh spoke recently about Ezeudu's versatility, which was showcased during Saturday's preseason win in Miami.
"The position flex is the idea," Harbaugh said the day after the game. "And you may have noticed he went back out to tackle in the fourth quarter, so the ability for him to play both guard and tackle, particularly on the right side, would be helpful for us. And that's our thought. He's kind of getting to the point now where we feel like he could swing right tackle, right guard. Right now, we're kind of keeping him off the left side and just keeping him to the right side, and that helps a little bit with some of the techniques. It's like a hitter, he's not a switch hitter right now on both sides, but he is playing both the inside position and the outside position. So, we think he's ready for it, that he can handle it, and that gives us some position flexibility as a backup."
Now he will bring those skills to Kansas City.
As for the Giants, the moves underscore their faith in what they have up front.
"Well, I think it says we feel good about our depth, for sure," Harbaugh said in between the two trades. "We do feel good about our depth on the offensive line generally and inside. And it's not too often you get a trade like that. You know, it's not too often you can trade a player for a sixth-round pick in the middle of training camp. But sometimes teams have needs, and Daniel's started many games in the National Football League, so they felt like that was valuable for them. With us, Daniel was doing well for the role he was going to be playing, and yet we have other guys that were doing well, too. So, it was a luxury for us. Any time you can add picks, it's a valuable thing. It's a future thing. Doesn't seem like much now, but it'll matter day three of the draft. It'll be something that we'll be happy we've got."
"It's twofold," assistant general manager Brandon Brown said. "It's, one, feeling really good about our depth, but then also looking at the marketplace of the league right now. It's an interesting situation where there's a rash of O-line injuries across the league, whether it's starter, depth, and that really creates a demand for certain players. And through training camp, through seeing our guys perform during the preseason, it created a surplus."
The Giants wrap up the preseason on Friday night with their annual game against the Jets. Rosters must then be reduced to 53 players by 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30.
