Giants sign veteran DB Tre Herndon after minicamp tryout

The New York Giants signed veteran cornerback Tre Herndon, who was with the team at minicamp on a tryout basis and even grabbed an interception on the final day to make his case.

Herndon, 5-11 and 190 pounds, has three picks among 32 passes defensed in his six-year career, all spent previously with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He has started 34 of 83 games played in the regular season in addition to two postseason appearances.

Undrafted out of Vanderbilt, Hernon played both outside cornerback and nickelback for the Commodores, appearing in 48 career games with 36 starts and totaling 126 tackles (93 solo), 25 passes defensed, 2.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, and two interceptions. He started 29 consecutive games from his sophomore to senior season.
