El minicampamento concluyó el miércoles en East Rutherford, poniendo fin al programa de entrenamientos de temporada baja que comenzó el 7 de abril. Durante las últimas nueve semanas, los Giants pasaron de las sesiones de fuerza y acondicionamiento físico a la implementación de su sistema de juego, antes de completar una docena de prácticas de equipo completo.
La próxima vez que se les verá será en el campamento de entrenamiento, que comenzará a finales del próximo mes en West Virginia.
"Lo veo como una verdadera oportunidad", dijo John Harbaugh sobre realizar el campamento de entrenamiento fuera de casa. "Será una oportunidad para concentrarnos por completo. Es un lugar sencillo para estar, ¿saben? No tenemos que lidiar con ir y venir desde un hotel. Obviamente, también estaremos alejados de todo lo relacionado con la Copa Mundial y de la construcción que hay aquí, lo cual también es una ventaja para nosotros. Pero esa oportunidad de fortalecer los lazos del grupo es importante: los chicos no se van a casa, van a convivir todos también por las noches, irán a cenar juntos y cosas así. Creo que es algo muy positivo para nosotros. Estoy emocionado por eso".

Faltan menos de 100 días para que los Giants inauguren la temporada en casa frente a los Dallas Cowboys en Sunday Night Football. Una vez que el equipo llegue a The Greenbrier, en White Sulphur Springs, a finales de julio, no habrá tiempo para mirar atrás, por lo que las próximas seis semanas servirán para recargar energía.
"Creo que es importante tener este tiempo", señaló Harbaugh. "Es parte del ritmo natural de la National Football League. Así que pasaré mucho tiempo con mi esposa Ingrid, con mi hija Alison y con el resto de mi familia. También iremos a visitar a mis padres".
Por supuesto, también aprovechará para visitar a su hermano Jim, quien se encuentra en una situación similar con los Chargers.
"Este fin de semana iremos a visitar a la familia de Jim, tengo muchas ganas", comentó Harbaugh. "Los hijos de Jim son una locura, así que siempre es muy divertido estar con ellos".
Harbaugh también ha disfrutado convivir con sus nuevos jugadores, quienes ya no son tan nuevos.
"He aprendido muchísimo durante estos cuatro o cinco meses", dijo Harbaugh. "Acabo de decirles: tenemos liderazgo de alto nivel, liderazgo de altísimo nivel. Estos chicos son líderes realmente excepcionales. He disfrutado cada día con ellos. Saben perfectamente de lo que hablan".
La admiración es mutua.
Los jugadores pasaron los últimos cinco meses aprendiendo lo que se necesita para jugar bajo las órdenes del entrenador en jefe ganador del Super Bowl.
"Creo que es un maniático, está obsesionado, y me encanta", dijo el apoyador externo Kayvon Thibodeaux. "Es tan bueno explicando las cosas que, por supuesto, ve a alguien como yo y piensa: ¿cómo puede hacer tantas preguntas? Pero siempre hablamos de que cuando alguien pregunta no está retando a nadie ni desafiando nada; simplemente queremos asegurarnos de entender de la mejor manera posible cómo ejecutar al máximo nivel. Sinceramente, esta es la mejor sensación con la que he llegado al inicio de una nueva temporada".
Por su parte, Tremaine Edmunds se está adaptando a su tercer equipo en la NFL y a su quinto entrenador en jefe.
"Creo que algo que realmente destaca es el mensaje que transmite", comentó el apoyador, seleccionado dos veces al Pro Bowl. "Harbaugh es el tipo de persona que siempre tiene una frase o una reflexión. Todos los días nos deja una pequeña enseñanza que podemos guardar y llevar con nosotros fuera del futbol. Algunas están relacionadas directamente con el deporte; otras son lecciones de vida. Y eso lo aprecio mucho porque te permite relacionarte con él más allá del juego".
En el otro extremo del espectro está Isaiah Likely, quien solo ha tenido un entrenador en jefe en la NFL. El ala cerrada pasó sus primeras cuatro temporadas con los Ravens de Harbaugh antes de unirse a los Giants durante esta temporada baja.
"Bromeo con todos en el vestidor diciendo que estoy institucionalizado", comentó Likely. "Esto es todo lo que conozco. Siempre les digo que con el entrenador Harbs esto es lo único que he vivido. Todo lo que hace en los entrenamientos lo he estado haciendo durante los últimos cuatro años. Así que lo que vean en el campo es exactamente lo que van a recibir siempre".
No es necesario decir que podrían ser unas semanas agotadoras en White Sulphur Springs.
"¿Agotadoras para quién?", bromeó Thibodeaux. "¿Para nosotros o para la ofensiva?"
