Giants re-sign linebacker Micah McFadden

The New York Giants have re-signed linebacker Micah McFadden.

Originally a fifth-round draft choice by the Giants in 2022, he has played in 48 regular-season games with 36 starts in four seasons. His career numbers include 264 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, 15 quarterback hits, six passes defensed, six sacks, five fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, and an interception.

McFadden suffered a foot injury in the team's 2025 opener at Washington and missed the rest of the season.

"It does complicate a lot of things," said McFadden, who was set to become an unrestricted free agent. "Not being able to put film out there, I think I only had 12 plays last year, so just a lot of question marks around that and the recovery process. But obviously being here with the Giants the whole season, and then them seeing me recover and get back to where I was by the end of the season, I think that answered a lot of the questions that they had. So that kind of narrowed down some of the options by the end of it."

McFadden doesn't think he will have any limitations when spring football begins.

"Doing great," he said. "I've improved a lot, even since the end of the year. But getting hurt game one you have a lot of time to recover after that. And like I said, working with the Giants and getting back to a place where I was able to go back home and kind of start my normal offseason program, working out and running and doing everything I need to do to play football this year."

Earlier in the week, the Giants reportedly agreed to terms with linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, pending a physical.

Edmunds, who made two Pro Bowls with the Bills in 2019 and 2020, was released last week by Chicago, where he spent the past three seasons.

Now they will team up with John Harbaugh at the helm.

"I'm really excited," McFadden said. "I think it was a phenomenal hire. I got to speak with the coaches and John this morning. I'm really excited to be a part. I think they got a great thing going that they have been building around here. And I'm excited to be in this scheme. Bringing in Tremaine I think was a great addition as well, and I'm excited to get in the room with him and learn from him and learn with him and put this thing together as we get going in the offseason program."

McFadden added: "I haven't played in this exact scheme, but I had some coaches in the past that have been with John and kind of run something similar. So, yeah, obviously it will be a competitive room. I think they will continue to bring guys in, and that's no surprise, it's the NFL. But, yeah, my thing is I'm going to go out there, compete and go and try and win a starting job, and go put my best foot forward during this offseason and into training camp and we'll see where it falls after that."

Before the injury, he was coming off a 2024 campaign in which he finished with a team-leading and career-high 107 tackles (60 solo). He recorded six quarterback hits, a career-high three sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.

In 2023, he finished third on the team in tackles and tied Tampa Bay's Antoine Winfield, Jr. for the NFL lead with four defensive fumble recoveries. His 12 tackles for loss tied outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux for the team lead.

As a rookie in 2022, he played in all 17 regular-season games with seven starts.

Prior to the NFL, he played in 45 games with 31 starts for Indiana and was an All-Big Ten selection. A two-time team captain, he was also honored twice with the program's Anthony Thompson Most Valuable Player Award.
