Notes & Stats: Giants vs. Commanders Recap

ISAIAH-LIKELY

TEAM NOTES

Today's game ended in a 27-27 draw, the first time the Giants have tied an opponent since 12/4/22, when they tied Washington, 20-20, at MetLife Stadium.

It is the third time the Giants and Washington have played a game that ended in a tie. That is tied with the Packers and Vikings for the most dead heats since the NFL added overtime in 1974.

The Giants three most recent ties have all come against Washington. Before the 20-20 tie on 12/4/22, the Giants most recently tied Washington, 7-7, on 11/23/97.

In total, it marked the 35th tie in Giants history.

OFFENSE NOTES

QB Jameis Winston completed 33-of-54 pass attempts for 326 yards and 3 touchdowns for a passer rating of 96.7. He also rushed 5 times for 27 yards.

It is the only time since 1950 that a Giant has thrown for 300+ passing yards, 3+ passing touchdowns and 25+ rushing yards in the same game.

Winston's 54 passing attempts tied for sixth-most by a Giants quarterback in a single game since 1960. It is the most passing attempts in a single game by a Giants quarterback since 12/17/17 when Eli Manning threw 57 passes against Philadelphia.

All three of Winston's passing touchdowns came in the second half, making him the first Giants  quarterback since Manning against Philadelphia on 9/24/17 to throw for 3+ touchdowns in a second half.

WR Malik Nabers caught 11 passes for 121 yards and 1 touchdown. He was targeted 20 times.

Nabers, playing in his 24th career game today, has 156 receptions over the course of his career. He is just the fourth player in NFL history to record 150+ receptions in fewer than 25 games, joining Odell Beckham Jr., Michael Thomas and Brock Bowers.

Nabers' 20 targets tied for the second-most in a single game by a Giant since 1960. The last time a Giant was targeted 20 times in a game was Odell Beckham Jr. vs. Philadelphia on 12/22/16.

TE Isaiah Likely had a career day, catching a career-high 11 passes for 94 yards and a career-high-tying 2 touchdowns.

He became the first Giants tight end in franchise history with 9+ receptions and 2+ receiving touchdowns in a single game.

Likely has totaled 33 receptions through his first five games as a Giant, the most by any tight end through five games with the team.

Today marked the fourth time in the Super Bowl era that the Giants have had multiple players with 10+ catches in the same game (Nabers, 11, and Likely, also 11).

The other duos to have 10+ catches in the same game are Nabers (12) and Wan'Dale Robinson (11) vs. Dallas on 9/26/24, Victor Cruz (11) and Hakeem Nicks (10) vs. Tampa Bay on 9/16/12 and Mario Manningham (10) and Steve Smith at Dallas on 9/20/09.

DEFENSE NOTES

CB Dru Phillips produced 5 total tackles, 4 quarterback hits, 2.0 sacks and 2 tackles for loss.

Phillips became the fifth Giants defensive back since 1982 (when sacks became an official statistic) to record at least 2.0 sacks in a game. The other four defensive backs to reach 2.0 sacks in a single game are Bill Currier (12/26/82 vs. St. Louis), Jason Sehorn (9/29/96 vs. Minnesota), Tito Wooten (11/22/98 vs. Philadelphia) and Jason Pinnock (9/15/24 at Washington).

Since 2006, when quarterback hits became an official statistic, Phillips is the fourth cornerback to record 4+ quarterback hits in a single game, joining Joe Haden (11/12/17, Pittsburgh at Indianapolis), Cortez Allen (11/2/14, Pittsburgh vs. Baltimore) and Jonte Green (11/22/12, Detroit vs. Houston).

ILB Arvell Reese totaled 9 tackles, 1.0 sack, 1 tackle for loss and 1 quarterback hit.

Reese has notched 42 total tackles this season. Over the last 30 seasons, he's the only Giant to reach 40+ tackles in the first five games of his NFL career.
