20 Questions in 20 Days: Competitions to watch (offense)

20-QUESTIONS-JULY-17

Giants.com is counting down the start of training camp with 20 questions in 20 days.

11) What are the competitions to watch on offense?

Matt Citak: After the moves made during both free agency and the draft, the Giants are not really facing any questions when it comes to the starting lineup. Most of last year's starters are returning in 2026, with the exceptions of wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson and offensive lineman Greg Van Roten. But the Giants went out and found replacements during the offseason, with the signing of several different wide receivers along with the drafting of offensive lineman Francis "Sisi" Mauigoa.

With that being said, the biggest competitions to watch on the offensive side of the ball are the depth at a few different positions. As I mentioned above, the Giants brought in a plethora of wide receivers over the last few months. Darnell Mooney and Calvin Austin III were both signed back in March, while Odell Beckham Jr., JuJu Smith-Schuster and Braxton Berrios were brought in during spring practices. In addition to all of these veterans, the Giants traded up in the draft to select Notre Dame's Malachi Fields, adding a big-bodied rookie to the room, as well. How many wide receivers end up making the initial 53-man roster, and which players take up the final few spots, will be one of the biggest things to watch on offense during training camp.

But wide receiver isn't the only position group that should see some fierce competition over the final few roster spots this summer. The same can be said about the offensive line. While the five starting spots seem to be accounted for, the question of which players take up the reserve O-line spots on the roster still needs to be answered. There will be competition between veterans and young guys for these roster spots, and it doesn't truly begin until the pads come on and contact is allowed at training camp.

Tight end and running back face similar questions, as well. Isaiah Likely and Theo Johnson are in line to serve as the top two tight ends, but who might take the third spot on the roster? The presence of Patrick Ricard makes the tight end competition even more intriguing. And while Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy Jr. will be the top two running backs on the depth chart, Devin Singletary, Eric Gray, Dante Miller, and Damon Bankston will compete for that third spot on the roster.
