20 Questions in 20 Days: The Harbaugh Effect

20-QUESTIONS-JULY-26

Giants.com is counting down the start of training camp with 20 questions in 20 days.

2) Where will we see the John Harbaugh effect the most?

Dan Salomone: On game day.

That's the goal at least when you hire a head coach with 193 total victories, including 12 playoff berths, six division titles, four conference championship appearances, and a Super Bowl title.

But you can't snap a finger and expect results on Sundays – and the occasional Thursday or Monday.

The Giants have a large graphic in their main auditorium with the acronym W.I.N. It stands for "What's Important Now."

The message is about process. How you do one thing is how you do everything. Practice makes permanent, as Harbaugh likes to say. You can't just say you're a gamer and turn it on under the lights. It's about taking care of things on a daily basis, which eventually adds up to performing at a high level on game day.

"You say you do the best you can every single day, and that means a lot when you really think about what that means," Harbaugh said at his introductory press conference on Jan. 20. "Are we really doing our best? Are we really putting everything we have into it for this day? Are we really attacking the day with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind, another level? Is that possible? Is that something that we can accomplish? Can we have the best meeting and the best practice in the history of the National Football League? Can we? We can if we decide to, right, guys? We can if we decide to. And when you do that day by day, you build something, you take it onto the field, and you let the chips fly."

It's about time to go play some ball.
