Practice Report (6/1): Notes from the sideline

CALVIN-AUSTIN-BOBS

The Giants hosted OTA No. 7 at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center Monday afternoon. It was a perfect day for football except for some gusty winds, with temperatures in the 70's under sunny skies.

* The Giants continue to work on situations managing the clock at the end of halves and games.

* During the first team period, slot cornerback Nic Jones came free on a blitz. The quarterback got the ball off before he got home, but Art Green grabbed the interception on an errant throw.

* In the second team period, Brian Burns began the dozen plays by getting into the backfield and forcing Jaxson Dart to scramble up and out of the pocket. Two plays later, Dru Phillips made a great play on a screen pass as he knocked the ball away on a sidearm throw from the quarterback. On the next play, Phillips put himself in position to make a play on a running play.

* Green came in untouched for a potential sack on the next play. Bobby Jamison-Travis knocked a pass away at the line of scrimmage. Dart hit Malachi Fields with an accurate pass on a crossing route over the middle.

* In the next team period, both the first and second groups worked on their no-huddle, up-tempo offense. Burns led things off again by forcing a throwaway after he got into the backfield. Colton Hood got the second interception of practice as he jumped in front of the receiver on a short pass and returned it the other way for a touchdown. Dart made a tough throw into the wind on a deep out to the right sideline to Fields for an explosive play. The offense got the ball far enough downfield for the two field goal units to come on the field and make kicks.

* Jameis Winston began his no-huddle hurry-up drive by hitting Dalen Cambre on a pass over the middle. Cambre had to make a tough adjustment to the ball in the air as he caught it a bit behind him for a big gain. A few plays later, Jarrick Bernard-Converse leaped to knock a pass out of the air. The field goal unit came on to make their kick.

* Dominic Svada and Ben Sauls kicked into the wind at practice today with kicks as deep as 53 yards out.
