12:15 p.m. -- Coach Brian Daboll addressed the media Tuesday afternoon via Zoom. The Giants will practice Wednesday and Thursday before traveling to Buffalo on Friday. They will then take on the Bills in the preseason opener on Saturday at 1 p.m. In terms of whether or not starters will play, Daboll said no decision has been made yet.

"I think it's different for every team," Daboll said about the philosophy. "I've done a lot of research in terms of teams in the last few years, coaches, veteran coaches, what they've done. I worked for some people that have had pretty good success in how we did it. I don't think there's one right formula. Play them, not play them. I think you need to do what's best for your football team. So, is it a series? Is it two series? Is it a half? You talk about that as a staff as we get going. Take a look at the practices that we've had. There's no substitute for playing the game. You have to tackle. You don't do a whole lot (in practice). Some people do some live tackling, but it's not much.

"There's no substitute for a quarterback when he knows he can get hit. There's no substitute for an offensive guard cleaning the pocket or being very physical in the run game in gang tackling. That's the game of football. So you try to balance that with what you think is best for the football team. You're always going to have injury risk. In practice, you have injury risk. But we'll sit down and do what we think is best for our football team. If that's playing, it's playing. If it's not playing as much, it's not playing as much. We've had a good camp to this point. I think we've got a lot accomplished. It's been a physical camp. And we'll continue to have a physical camp here leading up to the first game."

Speaking of lineups, the Giants released their first unofficial depth chart of the season. As always, it is subject to change. It simply serves as a guide, more so for the media than the coaches. Additionally, players on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list are not included.

Monday, Aug. 4

3:33 p.m. -- With a few injuries at their respective positions, the New York Giants signed running back Jonathan Ward and linebacker K.J. Cloyd.

In corresponding moves, running back Rushawn Baker was waived/injured and linebacker Ty Summers was placed on injured reserve.

The 6-foot, 202-pound Ward has played in 47 games in five NFL seasons for the Cardinals (2020-2022), Titans (2022-2023) and Steelers (2024). Ward, who also had a brief stint on the Jets' practice squad in 2022, appeared in four games last season with Pittsburgh, including Week 8 against the Giants with Russell Wilson under center for the Steelers. Ward played 59 snaps on special teams and 10 on offense in 2024. He was released on June 20, 2025. Ward started his career on the Cardinals' practice squad as an undrafted rookie in 2020. His career numbers include 22 carries for 91 yards and six receptions for 52 yards and a touchdown.

Prior to the NFL, Ward played in 41 games in four years at Central Michigan, where he rushed for 2,539 yards and 28 touchdowns and caught 98 passes for 909 yards and four touchdowns. As a senior team captain in 2019, he ran for a career-high 1,108 yards and 15 touchdowns while earning All-MAC honors.

Eric Gray remains on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list with a knee injury, and rookie Cam Skattebo has missed time and is considered day to day. The Giants started the day with three healthy running backs: Tyrone Tracy Jr., Devin Singletary and Dante Miller.

Meanwhile, this will be the second stint with the Giants for Cloyd. The 6-foot-2, 228-pound linebacker signed with the Giants last August and was released prior to the 53-man roster announcement. He joined the Broncos' practice squad later in the season and was released this past May. Undrafted out of Miami, Cloyd has not played in a regular-season game in the NFL.
