Giants name Yorktown's Mike Rescigno Girls Flag Football Coach of the Week

COACH-OF-THE-WEEK-4

East Rutherford, NJ – The New York Giants have selected Coach Mike Rescigno of Yorktown High School in Yorktown Heights, NY as the High School Girls Flag Football Coach of the Week for week 4 of the 2026 season.

The High School Girls Flag Football Coach of the Week Award is part of the Giants' continuing effort to support local high school flag football programs. Each week during the high school girls flag football season, the Giants will select one area high school head coach as the Coach of the Week winner. The selection is based on the coach's continuing commitment towards promoting youth football, developing motivated student-athletes, and contributing overall to their community.

In recognition of Coach Rescigno's selection as Coach of the Week, a $2,000 check from The Giants Foundation will be given to the Yorktown High School girls flag football program. Coach Rescigno will also receive a certificate of recognition signed by Giants Head Coach John Harbaugh and will be honored at a 2026 Giants preseason home game.

Rescigno has been a staple for both the tackle and flag football programs at Yonkers High School throughout his career and was instrumental in launching their girls flag football program. Rescigno coached the Yorktown High School tackle team for 15 seasons and reached 100 victories along with a state finals appearance in 2017. After stepping away in 2019 to spend more time with his family, Rescigno returned to Yorktown in 2024 where he now serves as the head girls flag football coach. In the program's inaugural season, the team held a 17–1 record, capturing a league championship and advancing to the Section 1 semifinals. The following year, the Huskers continued their run, finishing 12–6 and once again reaching the semifinals. Now in the third year, the program is just as dominant with a strong 7–1 start to the season.

Rescigno's dedication to the Huskers football program has produced a reputation of leadership, commitment, and a deep passion for the game. Along with his staff, his student-athletes feel the support at every level and have grown the game a girls flag football so much that they require a junior varsity team to provide the opportunity to more girls.

In addition to coaching, Rescigno is a longtime educator with deep roots in the local community. After attending Carmel High School, where he distinguished himself as a multi-year letterman on the football team, he pursued the game at the collegiate level and played at Hofstra University. Following his graduation, Rescigno began his career in education, becoming a physical education teacher at Yorktown High School, where he has remained a dedicated member of the faculty for the past 25 years. He has built dominant athletic programs and continues to develop young men and women both on and off the field.

Coach Rescigno's family has been a constant source of support throughout his career. His entire family including his loving wife, Kerry, his son, Michael, a sophomore starting quarterback at SUNY Cortland who was also a 2023 Heart of a Giants Finalist, and daughter, Sophia, a junior, who plays both basketball and lacrosse for Arlington High School are all committed to fostering an environment of excellence.

"Coach Rescigno has done an outstanding job of building more than just a successful flag football program, he's created a true culture of family," said Athletic Director Rob Barrett. "His players understand the importance of accountability, not just to themselves but to their teammates. That sense of trust and responsibility is what sets his teams apart and is a direct reflection of his leadership."
