Nigerian OT Roy Mbaeteka continues NFL journey on Giants' practice squad

ROY-PRIMEPOINT

Offensive tackle Roy Mbaeteka's NFL journey continues.

The 6-foot-9, 320-pound offensive tackle from Nigeria has re-signed with the Giants to the team's practice squad.

Mbaeteka is the rare player whose football career began in the NFL. He signed with the Giants on April 8, 2022. A native of Nigeria, Mbaeteka was first spotted at a football camp in that country in May 2021 by Osi Umenyiora, the former defensive end and two-time Super Bowl champion who is in the Giants' Ring of Honor. Mbaeteka was one of three players selected to train at the NFL Academy in London in October. Three months later, the NFL announced that he was one of 13 players chosen to compete for a spot in the 2022 International Player Pathway program.

He spent the first few weeks of the season on the practice squad before he was released on Sept. 29.
