What we learned at veteran minicamp (Day 2)

THEO-JOHNSON-BOBS

It's a busy week at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center with no time to spare. Let's get right into the action from the second of three practices at veteran minicamp.

Touchdowns

Jameis Winston threw a long touchdown pass to wide receiver Ryan Miller down the right sideline, although the defensive backs might have something to say about possibly catching him near the pylon if it were a live situation. Regardless, it was a 60-yard play.

Miller was claimed off waivers last December from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he played in 25 games and made six starts after originally joining the team as an undrafted rookie in 2023. He has yet to appear in a game with the Giants but re-signed with the team this offseason.

Miller's career numbers include 14 catches for 162 yards and three touchdowns, two of which have been caught with less than three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. He also has 14 special teams tackles.

Takeaways

On the play right before the touchdown, cornerback Jarrick Bernard-Converse hauled in the first interception of spring on a deep pass. Bernard-Converse saw action in five games for the Giants last season after beginning the year with the Browns.

Other notable plays

Tight ends were heavily involved in 7-on-7 drills, with Jaxson Dart notching back-to-back completions to Theo Johnson at the start. Isaiah Likely, a newcomer from Baltimore, and veteran Chris Manhertz also had a handful of catches throughout the day.

During 11-on-1, Dart threaded the needle on a pass to Likely. As mentioned yesterday, John Harbaugh, who coached Likely with the Ravens, has said that Dart will like him "being in his line of vision."

Defensively, outside linebackers Brian Burns and Abdul Carter, who has switched from jersey No. 51 to No. 3, had would-be sacks. Defensive tackle Darius Alexander, another second-year player, also would have had one.

Outside linebacker Caleb Murphy batted a pass at the line of scrimmage.

Running back Devin Singletary had another big gain on a screen play.

Gunner Olszewski, a standout return specialist, got vertical on a few passes for some yards after catch.
