Inside the Numbers: Giants vs. Patriots Preview

DARIUS-ALEXANDER-JAMESON

Notes and statistics to get you ready for Monday Night Football (all numbers are through Week 12):

1-1: Jaxson Dart has five games with at least one passing and one rushing touchdown, tied with reigning MVP Josh Allen for most in the NFL. The only rookie with more such games in league history was Cam Newton (eight in 2011, when he won AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year).

1-2-300: According to NFL Research, Jameis Winston last week became the second player to record one receiving touchdown, two touchdown passes, and at least 300 pass yards in a game. The other is Atlanta's Matt Ryan, who did it in Week 17 of 2018 at Tampa Bay. Winston was the Buccaneers' starting quarterback that day. Winston also became the second player to record 300 pass yards and 30 receiving yards in a game. The other is Tom Brady, who did it for the Patriots in 2015 against the Eagles.

2: Defensive lineman Darius Alexander, a third-round pick out of Toledo, became the first Giants rookie since Jason Pierre-Paul (2010) to record 2.0 sacks in the first half of a game.

4: The Patriots are tied for first in the NFL with four miscellaneous touchdowns. They have scored on an interception return, kickoff return, punt return, and fumble return.

5: Rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson has five scrimmage touchdowns since Week 10 for the Patriots, second behind only the Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs, who has six. Gibbs had three against the Giants in Week 12.

6: The Giants have scored a touchdown on their opening drive in six games. Only the Bills have more with seven.

7: The Giants have scored 20+ points in seven straight games, tied for the second-longest streak (2008) in a single season by a Giants team since 2000. The 2011 team, which won the Super Bowl, scored 20+ points in eight consecutive games.

9: The Patriots have won nine consecutive games, the longest active streak in the NFL. It is the Patriots' 20th season since 2000 with 10+ wins.

10: The Giants have lost five games this season in which they led at some point by at least 10 points, tied for most such losses by any team in a season in NFL history.

13.0: Brian Burns ranks second in NFL (first in the NFC) with a career-high 13.0 sacks. Only Cleveland's Myles Garrett (18.0) has more after recording seven in the past two games.

20: The Giants are tied for fourth in the NFL with 49 plays of 20+ yards. The Patriots are second with 53. Last week, the Giants' offense recorded 10 plays of 20+ yards today, the most in a single game since they recorded 10 at Dallas in 2010.

80: According to NFL Research, New England's Drake Maye joined Hall of Famer Dan Marino (10 in 1984 MVP season) as the only quarterbacks with an 80+ passer rating and a win in nine consecutive games prior to age 24. Lamar Jackson had eight such games in a row in 2019, when he also won MVP.

133: The Giants have allowed a league-high 133 points in the fourth quarter with a negative differential of 51 points. The Patriots have scored 58 points in the fourth quarter, tied for 24th in the NFL, and have a negative differential of eight points.

.500: Since the start of 2022, the Giants are 9-9 (.500) against AFC opponents. In their 45 games against the NFC in that span, they are 11-33-1 (0.256). Five of those victories over the AFC occurred in 2022 when they swept the interconference slate (AFC South plus Baltimore). Week 13 is the last of an eight-game stretch in which the Giants played all teams at least five games above .500.

517: The Giants racked up a season-high 517 yards last week. The Giants' top four yardage outputs of the season have all come on the road: Week 12 at Detroit (517), Week 2 at Dallas (506), Week 10 at Chicago (431), and Week 7 at Denver. However, they are winless on the road this season.
