Matt Nagy is in his 17th season in the NFL and first as the offensive coordinator for the New York Giants. He arrives in East Rutherford after spending the last four seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he played an integral role in the Chiefs' winning consecutive Super Bowls in 2022 and 2023.
Nagy's second stint with the Chiefs was 2022 to 2025, where he served as a senior offensive assistant/quarterbacks coach (2022) and offensive coordinator (2023-25). During his tenure, the Chiefs appeared in three straight Super Bowls (two wins), captured three AFC Championships and three AFC West division titles.
While under Nagy's guidance, quarterback Patrick Mahomes was named NFL MVP in 2022 after throwing for 5,250 yards, the fourth-most in a single-season in NFL history; 41 touchdowns and completed 67.1 percent of his passes. Mahomes capped off the season by earning Super Bowl MVP and being named first-team All-Pro by the AP.
Prior to his second tenure in Kansas City, Nagy spent four seasons as the head coach of the Chicago Bears from 2018-21. He compiled a record of 34-31 and led the Bears to two postseason appearances. Nagy was named the 2018 AP Coach of the Year after leading the Bears to a 12-4 record and an NFC North division title. At the time, Nagy became just the second Bears' rookie head coach to win 10+ games, joining George Halas in 1920.
Nagy first joined the Chiefs staff in 2013 as a quarterbacks coach, a position he held for three seasons before being named offensive coordinator in 2016. Nagy worked closely with Alex Smith, who led the Chiefs to division titles in 2015 and 2016. From 2013-17, Smith earned three Pro Bowl nods (2013, '16 and '17) and ranked among the top 10 in completions (1,587) and completion percentage (65.1). Smith also owned a 1.3 interception percentage, the second-lowest mark in the NFL, behind only Tom Brady.
Nagy began his NFL coaching career with the Philadelphia Eagles, serving as a coaching intern during training camp in 2008 and 2009 before being hired as a coaches assistant in 2010. Following the 2010 campaign, Nagy spent two seasons as an offensive quality control coach.
Before breaking through in the NFL, Nagy spent time coaching at the high school level, working as an assistant coach at Manheim Central (2001), as the quarterbacks coach at Cedar Crest (2002-03) and the offensive coordinator at Palmyra Area High School (2008-09).
A former quarterback in the Arena Football League, Nagy played six years for four different teams, beginning his career with the New York Dragons (2002), before stints with the Carolina Cobras (2004), Georgia Force (2005-06) and the Columbus Destroyers (2007-08). Over the course of his career, Nagy completed 65.5 percent of his passes for 18,866 yards and 374 touchdowns.
He played collegiately at the University of Delaware, where his name still sits atop a number of school passing records. Nagy owns the most career passing yards (8,214), passing yards in a game (566), passing yards in a half (358) and career passing touchdowns (58) and ranks second in total yards with 7,943. He earned third team All-American honors in 2000 after throwing for 3,436 yards and 29 touchdowns, both the second-most in a single-season in school history.
Born in Plainfield, N.J. and raised in Lancaster, Pa., Nagy earned his degree in health and physical education from Delaware. He is married to Stacey and together they have four sons, Brayden, Tate, Jaxon and Jett.
