Inside the Numbers: Brian Burns on pace for rare 20-sack season

BRIAN-BURNS-JAMESON

Notes and stats to get you ready for Sunday's matchup between the Giants and Lions.

5: Jaxson Dart has five games with at least one passing touchdown and one rushing touchdown in 2025, tied with reigning MVP Josh Allen for most in the NFL.

9: The Lions scored a season-low nine points last week at Philadelphia after scoring a season-high 44 points the week before at Washington, where Dan Campbell took over play-calling duties. Since Campbell became head coach in 2021, Detroit has scored in the single digits only five times (out of 78 regular-season games). The Lions are 1-20-1 when they score fewer than 20 points in that span.

13: The Lions have won 13 consecutive games coming off a loss dating back to Week 9 of 2022, tied for the third-longest streak in NFL history, according to NFL Research. Both the Ravens (2009-2012) and Broncos (1984-1988) won 15 straight games coming off a loss.

13.0: OLB Brian Burns recorded two more sacks last week and now has a career-high 13.0 with six games remaining. He entered Week 11 tied with Myles Garrett for the NFL lead, but Cleveland's All-Pro defensive end notched four on Sunday vs. Baltimore. Burns is still on pace for just the third 20-sack season in Giants history. Michael Strahan set the single-season NFL record with 22.5 in 2001 (T.J. Watt tied it 20 years later), and Lawrence Taylor had 20.5 in 1986.

20-sack seasons in the NFL since they became an official statistic in 1982:

25: The Giants have gone for it on fourth down 25 times this season, second-most in the NFL. The Lions are tied for third with 23 attempts. The Giants have converted 52.0 percent of them, 19th in the league, while the Lions are 14th at 56.5 percent.

37.8: Jared Goff had a career-low 37.8 completion percentage (14 of 37) last week, tied for the fifth-worst in a game in Lions franchise history (minimum 35 attempts). It was an aberration for Goff, whose 68.1 completion percentage with the Lions is a franchise record (minimum 1,500 attempts). Goff's 101.5 passer rating is also the highest in Lions history.

39: The Giants are 10th in the NFL with 39 plays of 20+ yards. The Lions are tied for sixth with 41. Conversely, the Giants have allowed 44 plays of 20+ yards (tied for 26th) while the Lions have allowed 30 (eighth in the NFL).

41: Running back Jahmyr Gibbs leads the NFL with 41 scrimmage touchdowns (34 rushing, seven receiving) since the Lions drafted him No. 12 overall in 2023. He had 107 receiving yards last week, the most by a Lions running back since Jahvid Best in Week 2 of 2010 vs. Philadelphia. Gibbs and David Montgomery have scored a touchdown in the same game 14 times in their career, tied for most such games among all running back duos in the Super Bowl era (Emmitt Smith and Daryl Johnston).

45: The Lions have scored 45 points on their first offensive possession of the game, tied with the Bills for the most in the NFL. The Giants are tied with the Eagles for third (38 points).

123: The Giants have allowed a league-high 123 points in the fourth quarter. The Lions have scored 90 points in the fourth quarter, fourth-most in the league. The Packers (111) and Broncos (105), whom the Giants have faced this season, are first and second, respectively. The Jets (97) are third.

139: Tyrone Tracy Jr. totaled 139 yards from scrimmage last week, the second-most of his career (he had 150 at Pittsburgh as a rookie last season).

1,463: Detroit has racked up 1,463 yards after catch, trailing only Pittsburgh (1,468) for most in the league. The Giants' defense is 17th in the NFL with 1,110 yards after catch allowed.
