Practice Report (7/29): Notes from the sideline

BRIAN-BURNS-CITIZENS

The Giants opened their 2026 training camp at the Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia on Wednesday. It could not have been a nicer day with temperatures in the upper seventies under mostly sunny skies with a nice cool breeze blowing across the practice field. It is a beautiful scene with picturesque mountains as the backdrop behind two well-manicured grass fields.

* The Giants worked for ninety minutes in helmets, short and t-shirts.

* The situational work the team focused on in the spring continued at the first practice at the Greenbrier's Sports Performance Center. The offense worked on time management at the end of halves and games, getting the ball spiked with the proper time remaining on the clock after a play that finished in-bounds.

* Cam Skattebo participated in the team portion of practice and got the first two carries of practice with one going in each direction. Malik Nabers was also on the practice field for the first time since his knee injury last season, participating in individual drills. He ran routes at full speed and caught passes from Jaxson Dart as the two continue to build their chemistry together.

* Dart's first pass of camp was a completion to Calvin Austin III after a play action boot to the right. He connected with Austin on a well-timed comeback route near the sideline.

* Kayvon Thibodeaux made plays a couple different times during practice. He got near the quarterback for a pressure on the second pass play of practice, getting inside the offensive tackle. He also batted away a pass at the line of scrimmage intended for Odell Beckham Jr., who made a heads-up play to immediately scoop the ball in case it was a lateral throw and was ruled a fumble.

* The Giants ran a number of screens, including one perfectly called into a blitz by the defense that could have been a big gain for Tyrone Tracy Jr. On the previous play, Dart completed a well-thrown pass on a deep out to Darnell Mooney. Dart also completed a number of passes in the middle of the field to Isaiah Likely.

* Zacch Pickens and Leki Fotu penetrated on the same run play combining for what would have been a tackle for loss. Trace Ford got into the backfield for a likely tackle for loss later in the first team period. Art Green was aggressive on a short pass behind the line of scrimmage setting up a tackle for no gain. Khalid Kareem batted a ball down at the line of scrimmage late in practice during two-minute.

* Jameis Winston made what was probably the longest completion of practice, hitting Braxton Berrios over the top down the middle of the field for a score.

* During 7-on-7, Tremaine Edmunds got his hand on a pass over the middle, deflecting it over the head of Isaiah Likely. Elijah Campbell and Korie Black combined for good coverage down the field to prevent a completion.

* Dart snuck one into Likely down the field a moment before Paulson Adebo flashed underneath the route, for a potential long completion.

* Deonte Banks had a pair of pass break-ups, one on the sideline on what looked like an attempted back shoulder completion, and a second coming down on a short pass in front of him.

* The final team period had each of the three groups competing in a two-minute situation. The first and second teams both set up field goals that Ben Sauls and Dominic Zvada made. Jameis Winston spiked the ball with only a couple seconds left on the clock to get the kick off before time expired. The third group got the ball to the 43-yard line, where Ben Sauls attempted a 61-yard kick. The kick had enough distance but was slightly wide right.

* During special teams, Sauls made four of five kicks, while Zvada made three of five.

* Tomorrow practice gets 15 minutes longer and will run from 1:30-3:15.
