Touchdowns & Takeaways: Russell Wilson throws moonball to Malik Nabers

RUSSELL-WILSON-TICKETMASTER

The day started with an update from Brian Daboll on Malik Nabers. The head coach said the Pro Bowl wide receiver was "good" after injuring his shoulder earlier in the week and that he would practice following a players' day off.

"We'll put him out there and he'll do what he can do which – he'll be able to do stuff today," Daboll said before practice. "He's OK."

That was an understatement.

Nabers made the play of the day, but more on that later. Here's everything you need to know:

TOUCHDOWNS

Wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson spoke in the spring about being moved around more to open up explosive plays, which the Giants have lacked in recent years. They got a handful at Thursday's practice, including a long catch-and-run touchdown by Robinson off a pass from Russell Wilson.

"[That is] certainly a goal," Daboll said. "We're working at it. You can talk about it all you want, you got to go out there and do it."

Daboll added: "You're always trying to generate explosive plays, so again, you can generate them a variety of ways. We're working on them every way we can to create some explosives because it's a huge indicator of wins and losses, both on the offensive side and then preventing them on the defensive side."

TAKEAWAYS

The offense was clean in the turnover department, but outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux almost had a pick-six on a bang-bang play near the line of scrimmage.

TOP PLAYS

It wasn't a touchdown or takeaway, but the play of the day was Wilson's moonball to Nabers down the right side of the field. Wilson threw it up perfectly, and Nabers jumped up and snatched it with a defender coming down on him. The result was a 50-yard gain and the loudest crowd reaction of camp thus far.

Jalin Hyatt hauled in a few passes from Wilson throughout the morning, including a nice sideline catch.

Rookie Jaxson Dart and third-year wide receiver Montrell Washington have certainly found a connection this summer. On Tuesday, they hooked up for a pair of 40-yard touchdowns in 1-on-1 drills. On Thursday, Washington made two more tough catches, including a sliding grab through defenders. He later won a jump ball in traffic, also on a pass from Dart.

"He made a couple of nice plays in that 1-on-1," Daboll said. "Two good balls by Jaxson, two good catches by him. He's learning the system, new to the system but he's got some quickness and he's done a nice job of what we've asked him to do."

Chauncey Golston, a versatile 6-foot-5, 277-pound defensive lineman and former Cowboy, found his way into the backfield on multiple occasions to disrupt the offense.

Linebacker Micah McFadden had a would-be sack on a play deep in the red zone. Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles, another linebacker, also would have gotten to the quarterback on another play.

Jameis Winston hit wide receiver Lil'Jordan Humphrey in stride on a perfect throw for a big gain.

Safety Jevón Holland broke up a pass.
